He made a few mistakes. Talking to the police instead of being represented by a lawyer is one. Another is shooting at someone running away. If he would have been a better shot he would be up for murder. Like the OP title says, this ain't Texas.

I think he was a great shot. I'm assuming he tried to hit him in the leg. Since both thieves still had his stuff, I can see where the shooter's coming from.

Absolutely agreed. He just made some big mistakes and protecting his own rights.

Here's one in LA, pregnant woman running away after ransacking his house was shot and killed by an 80 year-old man. I understand that she would have just done it over and over again. But you can't get them running away and then, you can't talk to the police about it if you do.

That's the one I seen and wondered if this was the same story I guess not.
Turns out she wasn't pregnant though, she was just saying so.
Ya libs got it so unpracticle to use and defend yourself hard to know just what you can do and not.
But guess alternative is to just just die, or use your right and hope for the best later on!
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter

You must follow rules of engagement and you must observe your Constitutional rights. I don't feel bad for any perp that gets a hammer dropped on him. People just need to do it right. You know, "Hey wait, you forgot all this cash!"
