« on: July 17, 2014, 11:55:43 AM »
I cant wait for the season to start. going to go by Mount Baker the end of August for my first bear hunt with a bow. Making a camping trip out of it for labor day weekend. Any pointers for this area? Thanks.

All of the 400 series units have been open for bear Aug 1st since I started hunting them here in the early 90's.

If you are there already and wake up on September 1st, and you happen to have an archery deer tag...

Thanks for the advice.  I didn't even think about that.   Will definitely have to get my deer tag.

Look for ripe berries, if they don't taste good to you the bear probably won't be there either.  :twocents:

I've been walking some bear areas with both ripe  hucklberries and raspberries. To my surprise, the bear scat contains more grass and wood matter than berries.

This past weekend I went for a ride in the one of the 400 series units and all the bear activity appears to be happening around in the Salmon Berries at the 1000'-1500' level near creeks, and drainages.  Rode to the high elevation 4000' to 4500' and I was not able to detect any berries coming in the area where I was or associated Bear sign.
