GMU 448
« on: June 20, 2014, 11:09:08 AM »
Ahhhhhh!!!!

Hello all been a long quiet winter/spring for me, I just got a little caught up on all the Spring Bear huntin!!!!
Nice bear everyone!!!!!

I am hoping to find some nice areas in the 448 this year. I live in Arlington and would love to find an spot around the darrington area to walk around a bit this summer to scout for late season blacktail and perhaps see some bear. Anyone have any hints out there for me.

Not look in for your honey hole just general direction

Thanks guys.

Touché' Tbar! thanks for keeping me out of prison

What I actually meant although I admit that I misspoke, was late in the general season. I hunt 242 during the beginning of the general season. im usually done with that hunt with at least 1 additional weekend left in the season. it would be really nice to have a place close to home to head out on little day excursions' I did this last year down by Monroe saw some dear, missed at one and will go back this year if I cant find a cool new spot. I like having options.

During the real late season I have enjoyed the SW region.

Well I believe you are on the right track where you were last year. The Northern portion of that unit does hold a few deer but once you get away from private land the deer concentrations are very spotty.  I think I see more bear than deer in the north end of that unit (could be the areas I frequent). The Southern portion with more aggressively managed industrial timberlands definitely hold better deer densities.  Find a gate and take a walk (I look for roads that don't lack activity but aren't mainlines), you will more than likely find clearcuts that vary in age and should hold deer.
P.s. shouldn't this be in the deer section?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge, I will certainly consider it come dear season.
I also like to look for bear. I say look cuz I really cant call what ive done hunting  :'(
I am intrigued to look in the northern part of the area if you would share some access points or even pointers.
PM me if you like
