Wyoming Non Resident Elk Application Deadline to be Changed
« on: September 25, 2018, 09:59:02 PM »
So it was recently decided that the deadline for Wyoming non resident elk applications will be changed from what it has been, January 31, to May 31, so that it will be the same as it is for deer and antelope.

Not sure how I feel about this. On one hand it gives me more time to decide what to apply for, or if I want to apply, for elk in Wyoming. On the other hand, I don't necessarily want to draw an elk tag if I also draw a deer tag, or an antelope tag.

Will have to change my application strategy for sure. Probably affects others even more than myself, since I don't usually apply in any other state besides Wyoming.

I like the earlier date also.  gives you time to make plans if you do draw.  And like you said, it gives you a chance to decide not to apply for other tags and other states if you do get that elk tag you have been working on to get.

Hate those new dates!  Glad I drew my elk tag this year, I was very impressed that Wyoming always had draws done on the same date with no drama year after year.  I sure hope they don’t follow wdfws draw system!!

Wish they would leave it alone. :twocents:
I like having the early app there to know before lots of other states.

I liked earlier better.  My guess is that they were hoping that bumping it later would result in more applications, which it will.

It's been a long time coming.  WY was in violation of its own law that tag numbers could not be set until after counts were done.  This burned WY a couple years ago when they issued way more tags than what the actual tag numbers were and a bunch of nonresidents had to return there tags.
