« on: July 23, 2014, 11:36:14 PM »
Alright I need some advice, I am trying to choose between the vortex  talon hd 10x42 and the vortex diamondback 10x42......  I have looked through both binos and really like both..

another question is has anyone bought any optics from Amazon?

Check out the prices on amazon, but before you buy make sure to check elknut.com .  I just purchased a vortex rifle scope from him for significantly less than the lowest price on amazon.

How is this even a hard descision? Diamondback are bottom of the line vortex (tho I love mine) the talon hd are a far more superior piece of glass.

The wife's got diamondbacks which for the dollar value is a great sets of binos... I have the talon hd's I see stuff a lot better and can see stuff a lot easier when it's low light setting like early am, later pm, when looking into shadowed areas, etc. Go with the talons man, or save a little more and get the vipers my buddy has those not much difference between those and the talons iv noticed so far besides size and I think the vipers are just ever so slightly better viewing out of. But nothing wrong with the talons man!
Boom boom boom...

You will get what you pay for with optics. Buy once, cry once.

Have you considered the "demo model" Vipers on the Cameraland site? ($499)

Or they have the Talons for $399

if I purchased a demo or open box set, would vortex warranty still cover any damages if something were to go wrong?

Yes the warranty is still valid. I know that for a fact because I bought the Diamondbacks from Cameraland a few years ago. The day they arrived at my house, my daughter, who was three at the time, decided to try them out when I left the room. She dropped them on the floor while she was standing on the kitchen table. The eyepiece was damaged and I had to send them to Vortex for repair.

If you're considering the talons, throw down the extra $100 and get the Viper HDs. Better picture and much smaller/easier getting in and out of a Bino harness.

If the price is almost the same, support the sponsor and get them through Elknut. Supporting sponsors helps support the operation of the site you came to for information.

I just got my diamondback binos yesterday in the mail from Amazon. I had no issue with ordering or receiving them. They arrived on time and I love them. If you have $100 off on Amazon I would not hesitate to use it and save some money unless you find a better deal.

It's already been said, but it's something worth reiterating. Check out Cameraland (cameralandny.com) and take a look at the Viper HD's that are on sale. They are downright awesome for the price. I just bought a set as a wedding gift for my son and am having a hard time parting with them (I have a pair of older Razors I might pass on to him instead). I should be shot for even thinking this way, but they are that good. Light weight, bright, clear, very sharp detail, and did I mention light weight?

If you can afford demo vipers from cameralandny that is what I would do.  Vortex starts at viper to me.  Any of the stuff cheaper than viper last I knew was made in China.

It's too late, but I started with the Diamondbacks and returned them for the Talons.  Sooo glad I spent the extra money.  They looked fine at first, but after spending a couple hours in the woods behind my house I quickly found out they weren't what I wanted to be looking through for hours on end.
