#2 - Broadhead legal or not? Angle toward the point?

Okay h20 ... you wanted pictures, here ya go! Sorry ... no poo to guess but I'll poo if the consensus says they aren't legal. Below is a cut and paste from the game regs. They are completely closed at the back. It is an unbroken surface. They form a smooth line. The rub is at the maximum width the line starts toward the tip and then arcs toward the feather end of the shaft. Legal?
g. It is unlawful to hunt big game animals
with a broadhead blade unless the
broadhead is unbarbed and completely
closed at the back end of the blade or
blades by a smooth, unbroken surface
starting at maximum blade width and
forming a smooth line toward the
feather end of the shaft and such line
does not angle toward the point.

Thanks D-Rock and h20 ... makes me feel more comfortable. 56 years old and I feel like a rookie. I'm heading over to the Nile area this weekend for some camping and see if the main herd broke up yet or not. Will be my first experience using a trail cam also.

Lotta good tips in the trail cam sticky thead. Point it down/up trail if you can. North facing will get washed out by the sun less. A box is a good idea if you can....bears like to chew on cams. Throw a salt block...even a little 5lb'r....down if you can. Sometimes that will give critters a moment to pause and you can get a couple extra pics. I love having my cams out....perfect excuse to go check them. Take your point and shoot with you in case you come across some interesting piles of poo also.

I read quite a bit on the game cam thread before purchasing. Picked up a Moultrie Game Spy M-900Ai. It came with a lock box which was important to me more for the 2-legged critters than the 4. Didn't think about north facing. Thanks for the North tip. Didn't think of that. I have a spot picked out where 3 well-used trails come out of a deep thick canyon and 3 more come in from the feeding areas. It's within a quarter mile of where I found the main herd. There had to be 250 head in it. When the herd saw me they didn't spook but moved into the canyon. Talk about getting the itch!!! C'mon September!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a sweet spot for the cam. Another tip from personal experience.....get it set up, step back, walk around and make sure it is taking pics. Give it a minute then check the picture count. If it reads 6 or 7 or whatever then you are good to go. I've done the self check and found that it wasn't taking pics due to operator error. Pretty lame coming back to an empty memory card with tracks all over.

When u say u saw a herd of 250 elk do u mean u saw 250 elk all in one spot in the Nile or was that intermittently over a day I. The woods ? That's crazy!!! I have never seen a heard larger then 100 in the Nile this time of year. U should call up wdfw and let them know u saw 250 elk this time of year in the Nile not in winter. They might b very interested to hear that because I think that is odd to c 250 elk all in One spot... u r so fortunate to have seen that this time of year. How many bulls were in it?

Hi Scout. Yes ... I saw 250 +/- all at one time. The most I've evern seen there is 50 at one time at the end of the line. Did I count 250 elk? No. It's an estimate. Over the 4th of July my girlfriend and I were out driving the upper reaches looking to spot elk. We saw one here, two there, and three in another place. Then, we saw the herd! By the time I got the truck stopped the front of the herd had already moved out of sight. I have no idea how many we didn't see. I started counting the outside line (nearest us) of elk only. I counted 50 elk. Mind you ... the outside line only. I never saw a point where there were less than four elk deep. Many times they were too many to even quickly glance at and guestimate how many deep they were. 10? 8? 12? I don't know. 50 times 4 deep sounds like 200 to me and I know there were more than that. The few bulls I saw were sheltered in the midst of the herd. A number of spikes and forks but no branch-antlered bulls. This past weekend (starting Thursday) I scoured 5 square miles of where I saw them and probably only saw 25 animals. All cows.
For h20 ... and why didn't you tell me to re-set the day/clock after I took the batterys out and put fresh ones in? I got 35 pictures all on 01/01/2099 at 00:00AM. LOL Got one real nice shot of the muzzle of an elk checking out the cam.

Ah.....the ol' I never set the date and time. See....I claim to do it intentionlly....that way I look better. Case in point please see "fat bottom girs" and "good growth" in the cam section. Date is on, time is not.
Also, quick tip about batteries if this applies to your cams. Mine will run on 4 or 8 double A's. I change four at a time. That way the cam never needs reset on the settings. If I take out all 8 then I have to redo everything.
