BP built it to be a massive powerhouse in the world of directional drilling. The thing is supposed to cover like 50 square miles from where it sits. As I am told, there was some concern that the pressure relief system may not take the pressures we see here, so they scrubbed the mission. The thing has a generator that covers 1/8th of an acre.....imagine the fuel to run that bad girl. The rig has been sold to the Russians from what I hear. It's being torn down and shipped over right now.

Amazing waste of money, but at the same time....to sit on billions of dollars because of a potential accident that may never be encountered is impressive in its own right.

Yes, liberty is the name of the rig. It sits on endicott island in Alaska. It's currently being cut apart and loaded on barges for a trip to the land of no laws. It'll take a few years to get it down.
