Brewers yeast or wheat germ oil for this dogs skin? I have a springer spaniel that has sensitive skin and was told by the vet to give him some of each everyday. Just wondering if anybody else has used or is using it on their hunting dogs. I have noticed since I started giving it to him that he doesn't rub the skin raw on his legs like he used to and the coat looks a lot better.

I have a Lab that has an occasional bout with sensitive skin. When she starts scratching heavily, I have added Nutricoat to her food. She is usually good in a few days. I may want to try your Vet's remedy next time. Is it pricey?

No, I went to a health food store and got the wheat germ oil its was 3.80 for 80 pills, and picked up the brewers yeast at Target, it was about 5 bucks for a bottle with 120 pills, the brewers yeast is 1 pill per 10 pounds of weight. I do know that so far it is working good for him. Not itching or scratching like he was.

I sure hope it works for him. I will likely stick with the Nutricoat because it works but also because of the hassle of trying to give my dog pills. I have a lab and she is smart and can be very stubburn. When I go the pill thing it is a battle of wills with lots of drama. Thanks for getting back to me and good luck!

I use brewers yeast on my labs with garlic .They love it when i get the bottle out they line up for there treat .Seems to work well when my choc has puppies to ,they all have nice coats and no skin problems.

My boy had the same problem. It always seemed like he was getting hotspots that he would pick on constantly. I tried a few things, but if I stopped they came back right away. I started doing a lot of research and one of the constants that came up was feeding your dog food that had grains in it. It seems a lot of dogs have reactions to the grain. I decided to switch over and found this placed called the dog bakery that only has natural foods dog foods. They had a ton of samples for each food and I ended up taking home a whole shopping bag full. I ended up choosing one called "Taste of the Wild". They have three flavors that my dogs love. My boy has shown marked improvement. His coat is much nicer, he has filled in, and he does not get those hotspots anymore. Another plus is he does not each as much anymore and his scat is much firmer. One down side is the food costs about three times more than buying a bag at the local Wallymart, but I think my hunting partner is worth it. It would defintely be worth checking out.
