Back when my brother and I used to hunt the islands around here we would measure our dear in freezer gallon bags after boning out.
That one might make 3 bags 
Last day and I would smack em.   :cue:

That is what I am use to calling a crockpot deer.  Usually got one or two of those a season in Illinois.  The meat should be tasty, but with the one deer limit I would wait.

 I like to see the youngsters. I see lots of them during most hunting seasons and  even if that is all I see,I don't shoot them, use up the hold back meat in the freezer from previous seasons. I have taken enough of them before the 3 point rule in past years as that was all there was out there. In the last  5 seasons I have taken all 4x4 or bigger so there is no reason to shoot a smaller buck.I have hunting buddies who have taken 3x3's that had 29" spread,scoring 155,weighted 300#s so that would qualify as a meat deer, but this youngster need some growing time. This is not a meat deer for 3 more years!!!!!

That deer needs time to grow! He's got 17-22#s of meat on him. And on top of that he is no challenge to hunt. With that being said if it's a first deer, or a last day deer, makes for a few good meals. I'd pass if it were me, just too little.

I just made some Korean BBQ out of a yearling and it was fork tender! Not a ton of meat but he would be tasty.

Ain't shot one like that in many years, August bucks are a few packages of meat shy of an October or November buck, this one included.  He is a baby but a little more "meat" in a few months than now.

My 100 lb spike last year is the best venison i've ever tasted, but 50-60 lbs almost wouldn't be worth cleaning.

Yet to get my first deer and even I would pass on him as he stands. I just wouldn't want him to be my first. Maybe on the last day of extra buck in mid November after days of hunting and not seeing any other shooters I would feel differently  :dunno:

I saw a whitetail spike that looked just like this a few weeks ago.  He stood there and looked at me with those big eyes.

My wife whispered, "just shoot it, then you can be done for the year"   (I had already tagged and elk and bear)

I drew back and put pins on him but just couldn't do it.  He was too cute and dumb so I can honestly say - once again - I will not shoot a buck like this.

I've passed a bunch of yearling bucks.  I've also killed two, one whitetail and one mule deer.  I probably wouldn't kill him, but if legal, I might. 
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
