who uses a propane campfire? what's the best deal?
« on: August 04, 2014, 07:07:45 PM »
So I'm wanting to buy or make a campfire thats propane fired, mostly for ambience when burn bsns are in effect. Don't really care how well it heats, when I need heat firebans are lifted, I care more that the flames are not tiny, and with a decent effect.

Don't mind doing the buy once cry once thing if its worth the money

High pressure regulator and hose to home made pipe ring that is plumbed to regulator and has a series of small holes along one side. Exactly like a bbq burner but its  1/4 inch pipe rolled in whatever diameter ring you prefer.  Add ceramic 2nd hand fire logs... And presto....

Cabela's sells one. I have used mine for years, works great in campgrounds where fires aren't allowed or when around people with breathing issues that cant take the smoke from a real fire. when we use it on a yard and don't want the grass to get scorched we have a big metal pipe cap we set on 3 bricks and fill full of sand and put the fire on it, works great.

No pic.... Re purposed materials. It was a basic steel pipe fitting welded to the 1/4 inch pipe and then coupled to your high pressure adjustable regulator line.

I was shopping around for one this spring, and the best deal I found was for the Camp Chef portable propane fire pit.  Finally settled on the Costco version, had an additional cooking rack with stand and was on a promotional sale for $79.99 delivered to my door.  Unfortunately, their website no longer lists this model.  It has the red baked on enamel finish.  It puts out acceptable heat in my opinion.

Buy copper tube.  Form a circle. A plus T shape in middle.  Solder together and connect to regulator. Drill small 1/8 or smaller holes on bottom depending on flame size you want.  Drop in a metal bucket/barrel etc. Throw some firebrick/log sand over top of burner and walla!  I am going to do this in my concrete stamp patio at home for a fire pit.  With a mod. for cooking as well, if I ever get around to pouring it. :chuckle:
MAGA!  Again..

We used one at the Silverwood campground. We got the cheap on from Home Depot, and was better than nothing. Be sure to get one that runs off a big tank. Ours ran on Coleman disposable tanks and only lasted about 30-40 min. We went through a lot Coleman propane.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

Sportsmans has a real similar one for 80 $, I think I'm gonna go with it, same burner as the more expensive one, wont get enough use to justify spending 200 $+ on a campfire in a can or others.

I thought about making one, don't really have time to mess with it, plus I like the fact the campchef has a nice bag to transport it in.
