Little Beaver Trapping
« on: December 07, 2008, 12:33:11 PM »
I'm doing a nusiance job and these guys have been busy.  The landowner has been pulling the dam apart almost every night.  All he's been doing is making the beavers work overtime.  The second photo is the pile he has accumilated next to the dam!  I made a couple of castor sets.

Dam

Pile next tot the dam

Castor set, you can just make out the rubber jawed trap in the water

another castor set

I actually moved the trap on this set over a couple more inches to the left after I took this photo, it was too much in the center

Some of the damage they have been doing

how big are the families of beavers per dam? might be working it for awhile?

All depends on the area and the food supply.  I'm guessing there are 4-6 in this particular spot.

are you able to use steel traps because its a nuisance set? I'm jealous.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Yes, I had to apply for a special permit for damage control.  They are padded legholds.  We can also use conibears as long as they are completely under water.  Any licensed trapper or landowner can apply for the same permits to take care of problem animals.
