Yesterday I got two Buff ducks for 5 dollers.I got them for laying eggs.Pics of your ducks would be nice.

I added a couple more chickens and 5 new ducks to my back yard this year.  One of the ducks didn't make it and I killed/ate two of the "pullets" that ended up being roosters.  It has been cool to watch the drakes change color over the summer.  Ducklings are higher maintenance than chicks for sure.

Anyone know where I can get some bands made for the 4 remaining ducks.  I am sure it won't be long before they fly off.  For now I have been keeping them fat and happy and they fly around the yard a little but keep coming back.  It would be cool to know if a hunter ends up with them later this fall and where.

You can keep them at home by trimming the primary feathers off even with the next layer on the end section of the wings.  You just have to remember to do it again after they molt next year.

If they are all domestic ducks the chance of them cuttin n' runnin should be pretty low. We have 6 assorted hens and they aren't even remotely capable of flight.

I used to trim the feathers on my chickens but my Cattle dog keeps them in line pretty good now.  It is his favorite job.  He hasn't killed any yet and does a great job of catching them for me if they do fly out.  It has been a very long time since a chicken has flown out.

 I want my chickens to be able to fly (away from predators, or the neighbor's dog), however, they don't seem to get the urge to migrate anywhere...    I would trim duck wing feathers if I had ducks.
