went out to my hunting grounds as I began up the hill I noticed some skat hopped out and checked it. very fresh drove up some more, found another pile just as fresh and little bit higher more skat. there are plenty of berries around my area and a stream for watering, hung out for a solid 6 hours but saw nothing but birds, skat was nothing but berries any tips on as if I should throw out calls? and if so what?
if its brown its down!

I wouldn't bother calling.  I would get somewhere that you can see a good amount of area covered in berries and wait.  You'll see them if you do.

Where's there is fresh bear skat, berries and water there are bears. Like stated find clear view and enjoy the time to reflect on what you already know. Best of luck to you

I've found that in areas with very good berries calling becomes difficult.  But, if that area is difficult to see bear the calls can be great tools to get a bear to stand up on a log or their hind legs making them visible.

This time of year fawn distress calls are useful, but just about any raspy low toned distress call will work.  For close up work I like an old double reed elk diaphragm reed if in areas with elk.  Start off with cow/calf sounds and gradually move into distress sounds.  If simply getting them to stand up I go straight into hard distress.  Be ready on the rifle as they usually only stay standing for a few seconds...one of the other reasons I like the diaphragm if hunting by myself.

My area is rather large.  Over the years we have noticed bear working very small areas of the area.  Then during the course of the season that small area moves about.  I began to realize they move as berries get riper in one area than another.  Come October we can find them anywhere in the whole field as all the berries have then reached their ripest.  Point is you may not be seeing them where you are because the early berries may not be ripe there.  But sooner or later it should start to produce.

Good luck to you!  Sounds like a good spot
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."
