best knife fir under $100?

I'm curious about what your favorite knives are for under $100.  I am thinking of getting a good all around folder in that range.  Field dressing, skinning, shattering, whatever.  Just curious. Thanks!

I carry a kershaw Alaskan blade trader and a havalon. You can get both well under 100 & you won't need anything else.

Gerber gater I have one that's been a loyal hunting companion for well over a decade. Hold an edge for longer than any other knife I've owned. I gutted and skinned three muley bucks on one trip, and never touched a stone to it.

Me too!  Not many things those can't handle.  And combined you'll still have money left over for a burger and a beer!  I carry both the #60 and the #22 blades for the Havalon.


I have to admit, though, I bought the wife a Magnum Ulu from Knives of Alaska ($67) and I'm crazy about that thing!  Amazing how dang fast she is at skinning elk and how flawless her work is.  It is a PITA to sharpen, but I may get myself one in the future!  Tired of her showing me up

I have 6 or 8 Buck 110's and a Schrade version. They are about all I have carried for the past 40 years and have used them a lot.  I am considering trying a Havalon though.  I like the changeable blade thing.

The new Outdoor edge knives are very nice for doing what you want. Like the Havalon, which I have, they're razor sharp with replaceable blades. Unlike the Havalon, the blades are heavier-duty and replacement is easier, not requiring a pair of pliers/multitool to change the blades. Had I not already received a Havalon, I would get one of those.

The Havalon is the best knife to have in the back country if you plan to cape your animal saves alot of time and much easier to cape the head than using a skinner where its tough to get into the small places without whacking holes in the cape.

I agree with the havalon. I have a buck and a benchmade and a cutco (nonserrated) with gut hook. Also a damascus that my dad made. When im hunting i always have the hqvalon and one of the others... theres nothing that needs done you cant do with the havalon or other knife.

Kershaw for me with the interchangeable blades. I have a little sharpener that I carry with me and 2-3 swipes every few minutes and its sharp as new.

Never, ever take a knife hunting that you purchased.  Only take a knife that was given to you or that you traded for.   

A "Knives of Alaska, Elk Hunter" has been good for me.

 I carry both the Havalon Piranta and the Outdoor Edge Razor as they both have replaceable blades. The Razor is larger and more durable but not quite as sharp as the Piranta but both do very well. The Piranta was $39 and the Razor was $34 when I got them. Only a few dollars more now.

I carry the OE Razor-blaze and a Wyoming knife because the gut hook makes skinning easier.  I like having the clean razor blade for the meat, but that is just me.  Both are quite lite and the blades are replaceable like was previously mentioned.  I also have the OE filet and bone folder for boning out the meat efficiently.

As a hunting tool a buck folder is always a good choice. I also like to carry a fixed blade knife as a backup weapon I currently carry an anza skinner check out their video on you tube very sharp very durable the only downside being carbon steel the require oiling to keep away the rust. I have over 200 of these knives com camping knives to bodies and they keep an incredible edge.

Carry 2 Knives and only 2 actual Hunting knives I can remember ever owning, a folding buck with lock blade and a 2 bladed Folding Case XX. Both with belt cases and all 3 blades kept Shaving sharp with a Schrade OldTimer Hone steel. Not sure of the price now a days but I know I didn't pay over 100.00 for the both of them and the steel when I got them

Outdoor edge swingblade is my go to knife for breaking down an animal.  Love it! Got one of those razor knives by OE coming by renewing my eastmans mag. Don't think it will replace my swingblade but maybe it will.

Another vote for the Buck 110 I've had the same one for 18 years and have gutted and skinned well over 30 elk and 15 deer. They are a little heavy but very well built and MADE IN USA
