Well it's that time of year! School starts back up for me today 😜 our summer is way to short! Can't wait until I finally move back to WA to get an extra month lol. With this said caribou, sheep and wolf open on Sunday! I've already got my trailers packed, wheeler and 6x6 tuned up, tent double checked, and taken one lass trip to the range. Should be a fun hunt! We are headed out Fri after work for a quick weekend (have enough gear for a month) up into unit 13. If anything it will be a good scouting trip for moose. It's also going to be my wife and step daughters first hunt with me so pray they goes well lol. I'll let you know how it goes when it's all said and done.

I just loaded the pics from my phone thats how they came out  :dunno: :chuckle:

Caliber choice: its like golf, depends on the shot, lol. I'm bringing my 338RUM with 250gr Barnes Triple Shocks, 375Ruger with 300gr Barnes Triple Shocks (mostly for big bear) and my 223VTR with 75gr boattail hollowpoints. Oh and the .500 if its up close and I can take it with a pistol  :chuckle:

Well it was a fun trip quicker than expected. My step daughter couldn't get the time off this week so I'll have to head out again next weekend lol. Anyway I ended up going by myself. Didn't get into the field actually until Saturday afternoon and it opened today do I really only got one day of hunting/scouting. Saturday I saw a bruiser caribou bull and coup sub legal sheep. Went back up this morning in that spot and didn't see any bou so I headed down the trail about 10 more miles and I ended up in caribou all day! Problem being I didn't see any large bulls. Cows, calves and small bulls. I did end up finding huge bog that held me up for about 3 hrs. When you get a 6x6 stuck it sucks! I ended up having to have two CanAm1000s and an Argo winch me out!

For those who know the area I went in at Gunsite, cut down to Sqaw Creek then over to the Eureka trail system to Monument down into the Little Nelchina then over to the Tyone up Tyone Creek then over another pass into another stream system don't know it's name cut back along the other side of that mt. Range to white sands and back to the Little Nelchina 😜 anyway 78 miles on the 6x6 today. Great day can't wait until next weekend to do it for several days again!

I love it!!! It's perfect for setting up on a hill in nasty weather and glassing in. I also love to store all my stuff in it keeping the inside clean! Pain to set it up but well worth it.

Home made! Took a fish tote, made the lid and frame in our shop at school and bought an axle tire kit from a place here in town. I've got about $500 into it. It's super nice! Fully loaded I can tote it around via hand, perfect tongue weight!

Headed back out tomorrow until Monday with my wife and one of my step daughters. We literally have enough stuff packed for a month, it's a little rediculous. I'll be strapping animals on the roof if We get any! Meat wagons full, 400 qt yeti is full, another 100 qt cooler is full. We will be living in style once we drag all of it 3 hrs down the trail  :chuckle:

Headed up into the Alphebets in between the Big Sue and the Mclaren on the Denali Hwy.

Got back tonight it was a fun hard hunt. It snowed, rained and was sunny. We saw around 100 animals and I missed the bull of a life time. Group ended up taking a nice three yr old that the 1/4s weighed on today at the butcher at 195 lbs. I did take one bad fall and gouged my knee and possible fractured my arm but I braced it up to finish the hunt. I'll see a doc tomorrow. Overall good time with my family.

Now that I am teaching, it's hard to get out of state to hunt in the fall.  I have been kicking around the idea of caribou hunting in August before school starts.  Do you think August is a good time to find a bull (DIY)?  Would it be worth the trip?

Well headed out this weekend on a solo mission. Going to see if I can actually find that bull of a lifetime twice in one season and maybe a legal moose will commit suicide lol. Wife's in California, daughters are off to college. It's time to go back out into the woods!!! I'll head up out of Paxson.

Went out and it was a barren waste land lol... I watched 4 diff bull moose, none of which legal. I only seen two caribou  :dunno: They had moved into the non motorized zone by about 20 miles. Pretty much safe. Next season.

Well it's been a long yr and being around 1200 kids daily didn't help with my health. I got to take today off but it was for a horrible headache and nasty soar throat. Buddies headed north without me. Would have been fun to go but that's life, maybe next yr.

So after being sick on the late opener and a little frustrated about not being able to get out I was able to sneak out over the weekend with my camera and my rifle. I ended up passing on several nice bulls because I had my eyes on one. I ended up changing my mind when he stepped out of the lake at 25yds, shook and dropped his left side in front of me. The other bulls in the herd were nice but not really what I'm looking for. Hoping to still get out and get one before they all drop.
