Cool thread Teacherman!

Now that I am teaching, it's hard to get out of state to hunt in the fall.  I have been kicking around the idea of caribou hunting in August before school starts.  Do you think August is a good time to find a bull (DIY)?  Would it be worth the trip?

August is a great time! They will be in velvet. They will be up high with the sheep and goats but they taste amazing in Aug.

I think a caribou hunt is a dream for many of us.  Thanks to all those who shared pictures. looked so beautiful and fun.

Well headed out this weekend on a solo mission. Going to see if I can actually find that bull of a lifetime twice in one season and maybe a legal moose will commit suicide lol. Wife's in California, daughters are off to college. It's time to go back out into the woods!!! I'll head up out of Paxson.

Went out and it was a barren waste land lol... I watched 4 diff bull moose, none of which legal. I only seen two caribou  They had moved into the non motorized zone by about 20 miles. Pretty much safe. Next season.

Well it's been a long yr and being around 1200 kids daily didn't help with my health. I got to take today off but it was for a horrible headache and nasty soar throat. Buddies headed north without me. Would have been fun to go but that's life, maybe next yr.

So after being sick on the late opener and a little frustrated about not being able to get out I was able to sneak out over the weekend with my camera and my rifle. I ended up passing on several nice bulls because I had my eyes on one. I ended up changing my mind when he stepped out of the lake at 25yds, shook and dropped his left side in front of me. The other bulls in the herd were nice but not really what I'm looking for. Hoping to still get out and get one before they all drop.
