O.k So I guess it is that time again to tell a few lies .. :chuckle: Last night I was thinking what to do this morning . Should I go to work or go play . Well at about 4:30 am I woke up and decided to play . I have been wanting to hit this area for some time now but just had no motivation So I decided today is the day . I load up my stuff and off I go . I arrive at the gate about 4:50 am to find the gate wide open .. :yike: :bash: :bash:  What is going on I said to myself and was thinking about leaving because I thought someone popped the lock  :dunno: after getting out to check it out I noticed a sign that read ( Open to the public from Aug 2nd thru Aug 31st ) WTH ..This can not be .. :yike: I am thinking now that this may not be a good idea since people have been driving in and the bear are hiding .But now I am here I best check it out  :dunno: I drive in and part about a mile or so from where I want to be . I then find a spot where I can watch an old skid road where I know bears have crossed in the past and sit for about 45 min. to an hour . I can see a good 100 yrds down the grade but nothing comes . I get up and walk another couple miles up the main road and hit a few more grades that take off from the main road ..After about an hour or so I decide to head back down where I came from . I am moving slowly and stopping a lot to listen and enjoying my free time by myself . As I get to the corner where I was sitting the 1st time I ease around the corner and stop . I look down the grade and  :yike: :yike: there he is  :o I throw my pack on the ground and lay on my belly and throw the gun on the pack ..As I get ready he goes into an indentation in the road  ( skid road ) not paved !!!  :chuckle: :chuckle:.. I am waiting for to p[op up again ..What happens next is just beyond anything I could ever imagine in my 40yrs of hunting  :o :yike: :bdid: As he pops up I get him in the scope and my eye goes BLURRRRRRRR.....WTH IS GOING ON ??? I can not see him  :bash: being a left or right hand shooter I throw the gun in my right hand and get him in the scope and he disappears . :bash: :bash: :bash: I have never been in this situation in my whole life .. Is this age catching up with me or what ?? I guess I am off to see an eye doctor because this can not be happening ...I have always been right or left but instinctively I go with my left .. I guess I will be using my right eye now ...just crazy . I was going back in tonight but the HAWKS ARE PLAYING.. :bdid:  AGAIN ...NOT BEING PATIENT JUST BIT ME IN THE ARZ AGAIN ......

BH,

Do you wear glasses?  The same thing happened to me a few years back.  Couldn't focus through my glasses, as normal.  It was freaky.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

NO ..But the last year I noticed I can not read anything up close I have to hold it a mile away to read it ..was it because the scope magnified what I was seeing by bringing it closer ??? I am still in Awe over this ...could have been home in minutes with the whole bear ....I was just thinking how many bear encounters I have had over the years and I have been blessed but I think the bear gods finally had enough  :dunno: :bash: :bash: :bash:

A bear hunt versus a Seahawks PRESEASON game? I love my Hawks but that one is easy for me...Plus, I've found it is easier to DVR a game than a hunt. Get that bear!

I am in a hurry so I make it quick .. last night I decided to wait until 6pm to head out since I figured it is so hot and doesn't cool off until about 8 ..Again what a mistake that was .. I parked my truck about 1 mile from where I seen him earlier thinking that was the way to go about it so he would not hear me pulling in ..Well I park the truck and load the gun and start walking up the man road . I am walking on the side of the road because it has grass and I can walk quietly ..I get no more than 50 to 60 yards and all hell breaks loose off to my left side ..All I see is hind feet and hair taking off ..he was no more than 15 ft away  :dunno: :bash: :bash: This place is a jungle and the only way I will get him is to catch him in the road ..So I wake up again thinking your dead this morning and even excited about it ..I clear me out a nice place to sit last night before I left and also went and got a gallon of bug spray  :chuckle: Those suckers were carrying me off at one point ..I get there at 5:30 ..Instantly I hear him tearing up stuff ..Squirrels are just going nuts.. I am thinking your done this time buddy ...The noises keep going on for about an hour ..Off and on ...then complete quiet .. I am thinking he smelled me or something ..about 20 minutes later ..about 8:45 now I step out onto the grade and just as I did I look up and he is walking across the road about 200 yrds above me ... :bash: :bash: He never stopped once ..Gone ! So I will head out again about 5:30 this time and hunker in again ..

I will keep it live and real ..I can not say I ever have had 4 bear encounters and never fired a shot ..this morning I woke up thinking about that damn bear and decided I would give it a shot since we have cooler weather and over cast . Well I keep to my same game plan as I have for the last week or so . Get in and sit down and wait . Well again I wait and wait and wait .. Nothing crossing be 9am ..Last week he crossed in front of me about 8:30 am .This morning I sat until about 8:30 and walked up the road following my same routine knowing persistence is usually the answer . :dunno: :chuckle: About 9:00 am I decided to turn around and go back .. As soon as I get to where he was last weekend I slow down and stop and listen and keep moving really slow ..just as I start to move again I hear something so I stop and listen for at least 10 minutes ..nothing ..then I take another step and crash crash crash  :bash: :bash: This sucker is smart .So this is twice now he has been in the exact same spot trying to cross ..I may need my tree stand to kill this bear .

I'd change your plan a bit, show up a bit earlier and sit still till 10:am.  Tree stand may help your view a bit but can also make you more visible and it puts your noise above the brush where it can be heard from farther away.

Thought I may have seen it all but I guess today added something a little different from what I am used to seeing or hoping to see .. I figured I would hit this spot one more time for good measures but it turns out that a few hunters have discovered my spot ..not that they really know whats going on do to them all driving up and down the road hoping one will just stand there and play dumb  :dunno: These bear hear trucks going by all the time but they are not stupid ..Once the rigs go by the bigger ones will cross after they leave but I have noticed when they do decide to cross they never stop ..There and gone in a second .

Anyway back to the story ...Once I get to the area I park my truck just inside the gate and walk in .. I get about 100 yrds and here comes a rig behind me .. This guy was really cool ..We talk a minute and he says I will turn around and let you have it  :o  that was shocking  :chuckle: So he leaves and I continue up the road .. I get to my spot and sit down ..About 10 minutes later here comes another rig ..Just hauling arz like no man business. All in camo and blew right past me .. Now I am thinking why in the hell am I out here on a weekend  :iamwithstupid:  After he blows by me I figured I would hang until about 9:30 and maybe the bear will cross anyway  :dunno: at exactly 9:20 here comes another rig ..A big noisy diesel  :bash: :bash: He sees me and stops ..Does not shut off the rig and we talk for a minute ...then he shuts off the rig ..We talk for about 10 minutes I figured I am screwed anyway So I will shoot the bull ..After he leaves I hang for another 20 minutes and slowly work my way back . I stop and sit on a log just in front of the biggest beaver pond ..Maybe 10 others in this area ..I am sitting there quietly when all hell breaks loose .. I hear 2 bears fighting and they are tearing sheeeeet up .. No way for me to get to where the sound was coming from because its a huge swampy area ,, this went on for about 3 to 5 minutes and then everything got quiet .. Mind you that this happened about 10 minutes after this guy stopped to talk to me .. JUST CRAZY SHEEEET Happening to me in this area ..Just a tough spot to hunt because its so thick ..Even with a tree stand would be tough ..I sat there for another hour hoping something would head to the road a cross but nothing ever came  :dunno:

First time in my life I ever heard 2 bear fighting ..it was something to hear !

I think we are hunting in the same spot  :dunno:    If so the bears are twins,  I saw them together last year and again the end of June.     I had high hopes to tag one before the gate was opened to the public.    I've been Hunting weekdays after work but I tried last Saturday morning and there was a tan S10 with a lumber rack parked inside the gate.   Is that you?   The Mosquitos are Horrific back in that spot.

Its a no no win situation for me and Gates  :dunno: I complain they are not open and I complain when they are open ...Lmao I had a huge bear dead to rights the 1st day out but you may have read what happened in my 1st story ..I now wish they never opened that gate ..I used to hunt that area a lot back in the day but since they locked it up I have not been in there ..I went into my honey hole today and I never in my life have seen the feed I seen today ..Everything a bear wants to eat is ripe ...but here again things went south for me again ..I get to the area and park and grab my pack and gun and take about 6 steps and I hear something an air hose leaking  :o I turn and look back at my truck and its over heating  :bash: :bash: So I figured I would hike up the ridge while it cools down and I start looking over the area ..I can see every berry none to man and they all were ripe ..Blueberries - Oregon grapes and Mountain berries ..I am thinking anytime one will be stepping out ..Just as my hopes were high here comes the fog ... :bdid: Sat there for 3 hours hoping it would lift but never did ..but that's O.K because death week is coming .. I love bear hunting in September and when the 10 th gets here I really love bear hunting ..But I know things are starting to happen now but I will wait until after the Holiday weekend and get serious about it

Frustrating isn't it, they can be so darn smart when season is on then wham so dumb before season.

I had a family member miss the largest bear I have ever seen at 80 yds one year, saw him three days straight after that but he would not give us agood shot. Saw him a lot of times for several years afterwards in spring and before season opened, but never during season again. I think he died of old age, and the area he was in is now all growed over into a jungle. :bash:

Don't give up BH45 go get him!

So I had some fun in August chasing a couple low land Bruins around and I enjoyed what comes with disappointment  :chuckle: So as of right now I am packed and ready for my September bear hunting adventure ..It will require a little more work than hunting low . I think I am in shape to crawl down the hell hole I have been a custom to over the years but one can only imagine what I am talking about ..Hopefully I can quit talking about it and dump one in the morning ..I try to get some footage of him rolling down the mountain when that 180 gr drills him threw the shoulders  :chuckle: :chuckle: The berry crop is off the chart up there this year and I know I just need to hang out on the spot and something should take a permanent winters nap

"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter
