« on: August 07, 2014, 07:04:56 PM »
Ok so half the people I talk to tell me that the yellow vehicle pass we get with our hunting license is a discover pass.  The other half tell me that Its not..

No, it`s not a Dp that comes with your license and you don`t need a DP for NF land.

The one you get with your hunting/fishing license is not a discover pass.  It is an access pass.

So, to answer your question, you need the pass for the ground you drive on, IMO. NF does not require DP.  The land should be marked for which pass you need, too.

The Discover Pass is clearly marked at the top:

I buy both a Discover Pass and a Northwest Forest Pass.

When i go anywhere i just throw both on the dash and let the game warden/ forest guy decide.

Sometimes i place a copy of my birth certificate, drivers license, highschool diploma and/or marriage license on the dash...you know...just in case i might need those too to keep from getting a ticket.

:yeah: but I also put in my passport and leave a credit card so they can just charge me there.

Like mentioned in previous post pending on where you go sometimes 2 pass are needed one to access area and one to park.

You do not need to have a discover pass (tax) for NF land, nor do you need a NF Pass to access the NF. You need a NF Pass only for certain campgrounds and developed trail heads; for now. You can expect that to change however.   :bash:

I think the state ought to do away with the DP and instead put up toll booths at all border crossings into our great state ( for those that live on the borders, they could get monthly discounted passes). Charge say $3.00 for autos and $5.00 for big rigs and motorhomes. They would have to be called passes though so we wouldn't think of them as a tax. I think the state could make a boat load more money that they currently get with the DP.

Cover all your bases, get the America the Beautiful Pass at a mere $80 a year PLUS the trusty Discover Pass at $30... and all your huntin' and fishin' licenses with the bells and whistles. I'm sure it won't set you back much money at all

 :yeah:

Now thats funny!

Last year the wife and I went for long drive on our way to Mt. Rainier.  We went up behind St. Helens on the 25 and into Randall.  Of course I had to go scout a couple of roads in the Yale on our way to Cougar first.

The drive required a Discover, Forest, and National Parks passes.

Just say NO to all of these access tax grabs that came out of thin air!  If they are required where you're planning to go, don't go there or park outside of the fee zone.  And by the way, some of those "Discover Pass Required" signs have fine print on the bottom that say something like "or WDFW access pass" (the one you get free when you buy a hunting or fishing license).  Don't let them trick you into buying passes.  Quite obviously they intentionally muddy the waters and use fear of citations to get people to buy all of the different passes.  How many times do you see a vehicle parked somewhere with all of the passes in sight because they don't know which is required (if any)?

If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"
