2010 F150 Transmission Issue When Slowing
« on: August 07, 2014, 09:02:32 PM »
Got a 2010 F150 FX4 with a little over 100k miles on it. Just recently a started getting a thud (if you want to call it that) when I am slowing and just about to a full stop. From reading online it looks like its a downshift problem from second to first gear. The vehicle is under an extended warranty until 125k. Haven't found any recent (within the past couple years) postings online regarding this issue. I know there are some Ford guys on here. How easily is the problem fixed? How long? Etc. Thanks

Might seem like a dumb question but did you check the tranny fluid? Had a similar thing in my wife's Caravan and it was just low on fluid.

Just changed it. Which may be another cause (maybe some bad fluid  :dunno: )

Slip yoke on the rear driveline binding and popping. Probably has some corrosion on it.

You might be able to get an extended warranty to pay for a slip yoke.  Is it a Ford ESP contract? It's not a hard fix to remove the driveline, pull it apart, clean and lube the splines. Anti-seize works good as the lube.

This is obviously just an over the internet/unofficial non-sanctioned guess/half-arse'd diagnosis. I'm not positive that's what's wrong with it, but we do fix them from time to time.

Yup it's a Ford ESP contract.

Sell that piece of crap! Mine started doing the same thing about eight months ago and went down hill from there.  Now it has no overdrive and shifts hard from second to first

Changed tranny fluid, but did you change the filter also?

I will 99.9% guarantee it's not related to anything transmission service related, unless someone completely butchered the job itself. The service interval on that truck for the transmission doesn't happen till 150k miles unless it's severe service use.
