Theres a bar called players in the parkade across from cowboy club, that place is crawling with dogs :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: ditto on no fmj, you will get a lot of yotes running off. I use nothing but varmit bullets 60grn or 40 grn are my favorites.

The Cowboy Club is gone! We use to ride the mechanical bull down there. Never saw any coyotes, but saw lots of bucklebunnies!

cheap beer for baiting and the sound of change rattling in your pocket calls them in fast.Try shooting a large bore meat missile for clean kills. :yike:

Getting back on topic. I have personally never hunted for coyote YET, but would like too some day. As for my comment about using FMJ it is what I was told to use to minimize pelt damage. As for my knowledge on yotes it is limited from what I have read and from what I have been told from those who have hunted them.
God Bless,
Scott

In my experience and from other friends on the subject of using FMJ's is way too many runners, I'd rather not chase down canyons for coyotes shot with a FMJ and need followup shots or lose them. DRT is the best way. Also more humane, If I'm going to shoot a coyote it deserves a quick clean kill same as any other game. The goal is to try and find a bullet that will enter but not exit but still give good penetration and not splash as much. Usually a SP or a HP are good choices. I'm trying V-maxes right now and they seem to be good. Also the lighter weight non-lead bullets made from compresssed "powdered metal" such as Varmint Grenades are not the best choice for coyotes. The 50 gr VG's work somewhat better but the 36gr .224 cal and lighter are too light and splash too much and can create large superficial wounds that will eventually kill the coyote if not chased down and dispatched immediately, but again not humane enough for me. Also the BC is a measly .149 You will probably hear some comments from others that think they are great, and they might for them but I decided that they are more suited for PD's and Rockchucks. Anyway I'll quit rambling.

I'm trying the 50gr v-max/40 gr sierra hp right now. The 45gr rem jhp is a great little bullet, out of the 15 coyotes I shot with them none had any exits and the entrance hole was always .223 size.

Lots of coyote sign, but I have been having a heck of a time getting any to come in around here.

Also, Ringold is shotgun only......just to let you know.

I use the Winchester white box 22-250 45 grainers when I run out of reloads, They seem to hold up good too.

There is a sign when you first pull up to the stop sign off of Ringold road that says shotgun only.  Unless they changed it.  I don't know if it is stated in the regs book or not, but I know I have seen the sign.  I think mainly it is because of the hatchery there and also it is so close to the river and there is always boat traffic.  Like I said, unless they changed it that is how it was a year ago.
