FYI - National Guard has the E Chewuch Road north of  NF-37 Junction closed.  Also, access from the east side (by Loomis) is also closed.  I learned this the hard way...$75 dollars in gas and 6 hours  :bash:.   Wish I would have done some better web surfing than rely on someones advice at REI.   I really hope that in a month this is very much different.

link of the closed areas which equates to a good portion of no access to the east side of the Pasayten.  http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprd3812371.pdf

Is this anywhere near the Iron Gate (I think thats the name) trail head? I've got a trip planned to Horseshoe Basin.

No left the LWW at home for this trip and took the Prius  :chuckle:  The f150 was bone dry when I left and 8 hours later bone dry as I passed the same filling station  :IBCOOL:  Speaking of fuel gas was 3.57 at that filling station in Lyman or Hamilton!

Trusting some one at REI probably was not the smartest thing I've done in life.  I went there for a fuel canister and had to fight my way out there with only that!  I feel for the person that is more of a sucker than myself...the sales people really like to make it seem like your life is in peril if you don't have a headnet and a spare and a gallon of jungle juice, a camping chair, the three in one fork knife and spoon...

Closure is very common for fire recovery sites. When Adams burned (twice in recent years) They closed the burn areas for almost a full year and quite a bit of surrounding area as well, effectively to the "next road access over from fire perimeter" They cited widow makers and errosion issues. Be ready for these to follow the state historical recovery processes.
