Hornady Rifle Bullets

Anybody shoot these and hunt with them?                                                              SST (Super Shock Tipped) bullets have polymer tips and boattail designs to produce a higher ballistic coefficient for enhanced long-range accuracy.

Hornady makes good bullets.  I've shot the SST out of my Ackley and they flew well.  I haven't hunted with them though.

They work well in my 300 wm, took 2 bears last year, but they aren't going to stay together as well as your tough, premium bullets.

Its a good bullet. Much like the Nosler Ballistic Tip, so it is a very fast expanding bullet which is good for deer and as you can see antalope too. But I would want a tougher bullet for game like elk. Not saying they wouldn't kill an elk but I would rather have a tougher bullet. If you like the Hornady bullets I think the Interbond would be a better choice. It has good B.C. like the SST but has a bonded core so it will open up fairly quick but also it will hold together very well .

SST 165g handloads brought down 4 deer in Montana last year. I liked em, the deer didn't. I used a Tikka T3 30-06. I have also used the Light Magnum 180g that use the Interlock. I have killed 3 deer and one elk with them.

I used to shsot SSTs in my 280.  Accurate bullet but a little thin jacketed for me.  Had several of em just completely explode on me.  IMO, they're OK on stuff up to deer sized game.

Might as wel step up to the interbond, they will hold up much better and have the polymer tip also . I think the BC is the same as the sst also. I had to go to the interbond because of bullets exploding .

i guess i'll use this thread to bitch rather than contribute, Lol.  i am a Hornady fool. they are all i ever shot, and half the cost, for the same performance. i bought a 300 wsm last year. figuring that they would eventually start loading for this round and now it appears they wont have the wsm's on their line up, so they can sell that stupid  ruger round. you would think that they would learn something from remington. yes i'm sure its a fine round, but it wont last. wsm's are here to stay. i'm praying to see wsm's in their line up someday, as i can't afford these damn $55 dollar boxes.

My thoughts exactly.  The SSTs are very accurate but I don't like the way they fragment.  Kind of tough on the meat.

I agree.  I haven't shot em but would imagine they'd be a great choice.

Hornady makes great bullets and they will work fine for Deer sized/type game.  Too much expansion for me on anything larger or Bears.

I'm with Bucklucky also. I would try to work up a load with the interbonds and know that you have a solid bullet for deer, bear, or elk. I am currently in the process of trying to work up a decent load for my .280 with the interbonds, but right now the old mountain rifle is either not liking the bullets or not liking the different powder combos I've used. Every rifle is different though. You might get lucky.

Bonded bullets are tough compared to non.  Just the jacket thickness and overall lack of give.  Barnes are similar.  Accurate in some but difficult for most.

nosler accubonds are some of the best rounds ive used in a long time... killed my moose at 400 yrds with the 160 gr 7mm noslers and my bro downed his 300 lbs bear with thm too... wouldnt shoot any other round
