my september archery buck.
« on: December 07, 2008, 07:38:07 PM »
Hunted hard for 4 days and seen the same bucks daily.  I am not a picky hunter and this year I wasn't going to make the late season due to work so I was ready to shoot whatever was available.  We seen quite a few decent deer and I missed a few.  On the first, second, third and fourth day we chased a bachelor herd of 4 around the same area and it was so dry the closest we got was 80 yards.  The evening of the 4th day we were heading up to park and before we could we came around the corner to find the group in the middle of the road.  I got ready and got out of the truck, I took about 4 steps to get a clear shot and the deer I could see turned and faced me from behind a tree.  I took 2 more steps and shot him at 18 yards thru the jugular vein in which he went 5 yards and layed down.  We gave him 15 minutes and watched him fade before approaching him.  I felt lucky because of the 30 yard pack which doesn't happen often and a good bleed out shot made him very tasty.  The next morning was the last hunt we had so we ventured to the same area to seek out one of the others and sure enough we found them.  Less than 200 yards from where I harvested mine we came in contact with the others in which my hunting buddy was able to shoot at 60yards a nice 4x3 thru the lungs after the buck fever went away.  Not huge but I have never had horn soup and I don't care to eat tag soup either.

there is nothing wrong with those bucks, especially with a bow  ;) Good looking little trout stream behind you...
