Pe Ell North
« on: August 11, 2014, 12:29:09 PM »
Had a chance to spend a few hours checking out Weyerhauser's Pe Ell North Permit land. It was our first time out there and after about 45 minutes we finally found the right gate. Better signage would have been nice but I guess $200 doesn't go as far as it used to. With that out of the way we cruised the logging roads for a while looking for elk and blacktail sign. Saw a few trails and what we thought were some good areas to set up for both modern firearm and archery (my buddy's doing archery). As far as live animals it was super toasty (90+ degrees) so all we saw was a 'yote about 75 yards up the road. By the time we stopped and got out he was slipping into the timber, never to be seen again. Kind of bummed we didn't get a chance to take him as I am sure he will be responsible for some fawn/calf deaths in the not so distant future.

All in all, we covered a fair amount territory and feel pretty good about the area. Anyone else get their Pe Ell permits?

Great Blacktail unit, daughter & I have harvested many bucks up there.  A few whoppers have eluded me.  I drew Peaches Modern Bull this year, so I couldn't justify spending $200 on the P-North if I wouldn't be there much.  I've personally had a hard time finding the elk consistently up there, others do great.  Alot less elk pressure usually.  They move alot.  Some deep deep timbered canyons for them to disappear into.  I've always like the west-side of the unit for deer.  Below is my daughter's first deer from up there, she's a bit older now, lol.  Like I said, no shortage of deer :)  Good luck!

My buddy and I got ours. We went to the area where I always run into them, and whaddaya know, we ran into a small bunch. No bulls, but they're nearby. C'mon October 4th!

those two BT's look like they could be related. Both are very nice!

I would be delighted with either of those bucks

I took a drive up there this weekend as well. I use to go all over that unit back before the gated everything. Lot of good bucks up there. Like willapawapiti I too have a hard time consistently finding elk up there but there there. I have seen some real dandy bucks come out of the unit and pretty good for bear too. As far as the gates go I went in at Doty and took me a couple minutes of mess I g with the lock and lever system to figure it out. Didn't realize the different locks at first. I'm headed back up there this weekend to do some scouting and bear hunting. I will be up there all muzzy season too.

There's not a ton of elk up in Doty.  Some dandy bucks up there though

Yeah I agree. Not much for elk up there. I was up there bear hunting. I think next weekend I am going to head up Wilson creek and look around up there. I have seen a few good bulls up there but its been a while since I have been up there.
