Fire on the west, now it's raining.
« on: August 11, 2014, 05:09:08 PM »
With all the fire lets all pray together that they keep the woods open.  All the permit purchasers would be livid if pe ell was closed for archery elk.

I'm with you on this. I heard today that someone was traveling around Shelton and started at least five brush fires. My assistant fire chief told me today there had been a 15 acre fire behind Mill 5 outside Shelton. What we could use is some good rain days.

There's another one at Haven lake now. Just a few miles north of mill 5.

I haven't heard that.  I just seen the smoke in lacey.  I will cry if they close all the woods.    :cryriver:

They're gonna lock down all the tree farms whether there is fires or not. Mid august they have locked down every year I've lived out here.

Hes probably talking green diamond.  They lock em towards the end of the archery season if its hot and dry.  I can just hope it does rain good for three days like they say.

Shelton area is littered with fires. Someone's setting them, I've only heard of two that were accidental.

Just hearsay. It's just my opinion that someone is setting them, nothing factual.

Many of the fires have been set on green diamond land. Someone upset about the pay to play?

There are fires all over mason county, some stretches of roads had brush fires burning all along them.

The one at haven lake sounded pretty scary last I heard, some pictures I saw looked like it was going pretty good. High elevation and steep country... Tough stuff.

This rain should be helping things a little, at least in making it more difficult to start new fires.

This is the email I just got from Weyco.

In spite of the high fire danger on all forestlands in WA, Weyerhaeuser lands remain open to recreation permit holders.   We believe that permit holders, acting responsibly, can be another set of eyes and provide an early warning if a forest fire should occur.  If you observe a fire, note the location such as the road # or GPS coordinates, and then notify 911 or the WA Dept of Natural Resources at 800-562-6010.

Please remember these permit rules regarding fire prevention:

·         No smoking outside of your vehicle

·         No fireworks at any time

·         Carry a minimum 5 pound BC fire extinguisher, shovel and axe

·         No campfires until after fire season ends

·         No target shooting

Additional cautions:

·         Watch where you park.  Avoid parking in tall grass where a hot catalytic convertor can start a fire.

·         Having a fire extinguisher available in the event of a vehicle fire may keep a fire from getting larger.  However, we don’t expect you to put yourself at risk trying to fight a fire.

Our goal is to remain open for recreational access unless the woods become so hot and dry that it isn’t advisable for anyone to be in the woods.  If the woods are closed due to fire danger, we will:

·         post a message in the Announcements section on the web page (www.WYRecreationNW.com)

·         record a message on the toll-free hotline (866-636-6531)

·         send an email

Thanks for working with us to keep the forests safe.
