Selkirk 113 muzzy elk hunting
« on: August 12, 2014, 01:34:13 PM »
After drawing for the blues last year, I have a feeling I'll be disappointed yet again by elk hunting in 113.  Deer hunted up there all last year to no avail.  I had previously elk hunted the 3 years prior to being drawn in blues up north and have had no luck even getting on the elk.  Starting to scout up there has led me to few signs of elk in the region yet again.  I know elk are few and far between in the northeast as it is, but has anyone had better luck that I thus far?

They are there if you can deal with the strait up and down country, I passed on a couple of bulls last year only because of the snow, and I was alone. But that was during rifle.  Good luck

My son has a cow tag for 113, any pointers for where to find a cow?  We have hunted Mill Creek and have camp there now. Very little sign, thanks Cory

The 113 is just a difficult unit and that's for any game you hunt. It's steep, thick and nasty. With that said plenty of patience and luck are key! Just gotta grind and stay after it. I've hunted elk the past 14 years in 113 and for the first 9 nothing then in 2010 I missed a chance on a spike. Since then I shot a 5 pt in 2012 and a 5x4 in 2013. Still chasing this year. As for my dad hes kind of the opposite. He shot a 5pt. in 2004 and a 7x6 in 2005. Since then nothing, not even seen another bull.

I been elk hunting here 2 years now. I find sign and get a few bulls on cam but I have yet to see an elk during mf season. I hike in farther than most I see and just can't seem to find anything when its time. Someday my number will be up

I only hunt that unit for elk. Its hard and theres not very many. Theres so much area that theres no way to confine them and they can be in one area one day and 10 miles away the next. I hunt archery and find bulls every year, just haven't had the opportunity for a shot. Its very thick where I find them and shots limit me to 20 yards maybe if I'm lucky. Had one this year within 40 but still could never see him. It can be very frustrating.
