.22lr for turkey?

hey guys, I was wondering if you can use a .22lr on turkey? is it legal in Washington? have any of you ever done it? thanks.

Anyone can shoot a turkey, but rifles take all the fun out of it. Me personally hunt turkeys for the sport. And there is nothing like calling in a turkey I would easily be able to hit with a rifle, into 20 yards or less. And have him gobbling his head off, wondering where I am.. Just my two bits...!

What about a crossbow in a firearms restricted area or if youre a disabled hunter?

Good question...I would guess no since they are so particular about what weapons you can use but it's pretty unclear. of course you can always e-mail wdfw for a straight answer. Wasn't this one of the things we were asked to comment on for them to add in the survey this year? If so, then I would say for sure not allowed...yet

Better make sure your falcon can tell the difference between a tom and a hen....     I know, not in the fall.

Years ago the LEO in the Joesph area said the natives were taking turkeys before season with 22's.

I would beg to differ, A .22lr will kill a lot of things it is not legal to do so

I shot one of my big 35 lb tom turkeys that went on a chick killing spree.  I hit it through the chest with a .22 lr and it went about 20' and died.  He was twice as big as a wild jake.

I used to shoot a lot of my Dad’s free ranging turkeys with .22 shorts.  It is a very effective method.

Over 50 years ago we lived in a southern state that had no regs on what to use for turkey's.  My dad shot many with a 22 but we usually had to chase it down or circle and get some more lead in it.  Occasionally one would die quick but not usually.  We switched to a 30-30 because we had no shotgun.

I have seen a few states that allow the use of rifle of muzzleloaders on turkeys. I don't think WA will ever be one of them.
