Thanks.  Here's the news... the shop says the engine has a bad cylinder (might have been bad previously?), shop wants like five grand plus to work on it, insurance totaled the boat but we bought it back.  I'll have to rewire stuff, and get a new canopy, but other than that it seems fine but with a cracked side window.  The shop didn't want the engine, so the insurance company is letting me keep it.  One of the boat yard's employees asked if he could "have" it, yeah right, I'll see what I can do with it.

With the money left over from the hull, we can buy a new motor, but holy crap, at a little over ten grand, installed, it hurts!  We will have just enough left to get a new canopy made and buy a new GPS, I'm sending the old one in to Lowrance, but with their customer service record, I'm not holding my breath.  It sure would be nice to get my fishing spots back.   :(  My Humminbird GPS/Depthfinder actually survived two days underwater, GO HUMMINBIRD!     The batteries seem to be fine as well after being charged up.  Have to buy new nav lights and get my spotlight fixed, again.  My net got thrashed but I have another one with mono-type mesh so I will just transfer the knotless net to that frame.  I also need a new fuel level sensor and gauge, though that also was not working previous to the flip.  I also need a rearming kit for my auto-inflating PFD that did not inflate.   :yike:  Be sure to check those as they can go "bad".

Hope to have it up and running by May for the lingcod/shrimp openers.  One positive note is that the new engines seem to be about 30% more fuel efficient than my old one was.

A note to those of you with boat insurance, insure the hull for double what you payed for it if it was used when purchased and you can afford it.  Also, it seems that a lot of companies will only insure the engine to blue book value after it is five years old, so transfer excess coverage to your hull.  And, remember, the "hull" includes all of your electronics, be sure they are in there at replacement costs.

You should mount a periscope on it.   :sry:

You can now add "sub" to your marinier title.

What type of motor is it? Are you going to fix it your self? Do you know anyone who is an inspiring mechanic that wants a good learning experience?

It's a 2005 honda BF90, carburated engine.  I don't know any aspiring mechanics.  I figure i might learn something while working on it.  And, just maybe, have a decent engine at the end to sell or put on a boat for the boy to use when he gets to high school.

The weather was a little nicer today.  While Everett area got snowed on, we were sunny and calm.  The boat is, now at least, sunny side up and at the repair shop for engine work.

Just curious, was the boat moved...? The photos look like entirely different areas. When it was flipped it was near a wooden dock, When they rolled it back over it was in a small enclosed looking metal docking area?

Yes, when the wind died a bit we pulled it around into the dinghy area so it would be sheltered a little and in a location easier to work around.

Ahh nice. It looked like it woulda been a pain to flip where it originally did in the first place anyhow!

Back on (top of) the water.  Bought a new engine last fall with the insurance $$.  The insurance company let me keep the old one, I was hoping to try to get it fixed up by now as the marina got it running but said it had a "bad" cylinder so who knows.

As far as the Lowrance... still dead.  Bought a new one since I had all of the NMEA network stuff already.  However, the Humminbird that took a soak as well is still going strong.  I do have to smack it on the side once in a while to get one of the buttons to work though.nn

I also built a hardtop for it, I'll post pics tomorrow of that.
