AR15 Lowers
« on: December 08, 2008, 08:31:46 AM »
For you guys that are thinkin about building an ar15 and haven't bought the lowers yet you might want to look at Anvil Arms. I bought 2 of them and they are high quality. Plus you can design a logo to put on the lower and Jon will laser engrave in on for free. Great service too. Here's a couple that I designed. The first is the family shield and the 2nd I think everyone knows who he is.

nice. Did you just order them? How long of wait time?

I need one more lower.

I just ordered a 9mm upper from RRA and they said 18 weeks or more.

You can order them online but they have to be sent to a FFL , I got them in a week but that was before the Obama.

I know of at least 2 others on this site that are interested in building an AR. A step by step process of items to buy in no particular order would be a great help, do we have any AR "Experts" on here that could help out with this? By "Expert" I mean someone that is VERY familiar with the workings and idiosyncrasy's of these firearms. If you fit the bill, maybe you could start a new thread titled "AR Building (step by step)" Of course there are undoubtedly several of you on here so please don't think it would be solely up to the person starting the thread, please add your  :twocents: if you have insight into a build like this.
The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first!

Building an AR15 is not hard. Since you can buy stripped receivers as well as unstripped there is no one recipe for building one. You'll need a lower receiver and an upper receiver to start with. If you choose the stripped lower then you'll have to purchase the trigger mechanism and other internal parts as well (for example).

Check out the link here to the diagram http://www.ar15.com/content/guides/parts/

The 6 sub categories on the lower left some of which are links to their diagrams as well.

Here is a parts description of the lower receiver with photos of the parts as well as a how to assemble. http://www.ar15.com/content/guides/assembly/lower/

The lower receiver is the most complex when it comes to number of parts and assembly. The upper receiver is not too difficult to assemble assuming you get one with a gas block already installed..

Here is a list of some eyeworthy articles on the web http://www.ar15.com/content/index.html#articles

Rob if you buy one I can help you assemble it no problem...

If your looking for lowers right now get ready to pay through the nose. Everyone is out and on the private market they are about 200 bones.
If anyone near Olympia is looking to build, send a PM. I would be glad to help, I have built several and have all the tools needed.

This is also a good forum http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=226782

Be sure to check out the Washington Hometown forum over there too, lots of knowledge on these rifles in the group. Even a few fudds.
