adhesive/epoxy
« on: August 16, 2014, 08:59:35 AM »
Going to glue /adhere one of those velcro hide-a-key things to the underside of my sons car.   The car is very hard to break into if he locks his key in it.  Anyone got a favorite epoxy that they use for these types of applications.  Prefer something that sets/cures fast.

Thanks

There are some 3m double sided tapes that are bombproof.

Epoxy will need the surfaces clean and blasted or abraded.

Have you thought of big zip ties?

Zip ties will rot and break with time. Try a carribeaner, metal shower curtain clip, or the like.

I drilled a small hole through the frame and attached a spare key to the inside of the frame rail with a small bolt and wing nut. Don't need tools to undo it and don't have to worry about it falling off somewhere

I used that on my Toyota pickup for years.  It moved around a bit, but it was there when I removed it prior to selling the truck.  That and a bit of safety wire should be bomb proof.

You can use zip ties to secure the screw driver to the frame.

That aside, the magnetic ones work great for me, I have never had them move or get lost.

Are keys with a chip prone to weather related problems. ie. being in the undercarriage and moist alot when raining or snowing?
