Looking for a bow
« on: June 13, 2014, 09:50:21 AM »
Hey everyone I'm looking at getting into bow fishing and don't know much about it, I hunt big game archery only but never tried bow fishing. Looking for any help full hint into getting started such as gear or anything like that it will be much appreciated and also looking for a bow, I think my monster chill will be a little too much bow ::)

Pick whatever bow you would like. Some like recurves and some like compounds. I favor compounds. You can hit up ebay and find some great deals on used bows. For a reel get the ams retriever. It is the safest and most reliable reel out there. When you get arrows make sure they have safety slides on them. I like a lot of the roller rest, like the wave. I run the mako's by alpine on my boat. They are built for bowfishing and they don't cost a arm and a leg. They have killed hundreds of fish each. I have four of them and they have been rock solid.

So we can use any compound bow with a reel and fishing broadhead/arrow for bow fishing?

Can any fish be bowfished?
Where is bow fishing permitted?

I don't believe its legal to bow fish for gamefish species such as bass, salmon etc. I think carp, suckers and pikeminnows are fair game. Grass carp are protected in the few places they exist.
Fish hard, hunt harder!
