Where to hunt deer and elk?
« on: August 16, 2014, 07:58:11 PM »
Does anyone have good advice for public land to hunt and understanding WA rules? I will be rifle hunting. I am new to the area. Active duty military just PCS'd to Ft Lewis this summer. Have spent the last 2 months reading and then re-reading the hunting reg book and driving around trying to figure out where to hunt and I get more confused each time. Spent most of my hunting in Colorado on family private land and SouthWest Missouri, but the rules here are very different and finding land to hunt on has been challenging. Any advice would be great.

You could get a Weyerhaeuser access permit for either the Aberdeen tree farm or the St Helens tree farm. Either one would give you plenty of area to hunt for both deer and elk. That is if you want to hunt over here in the rain.

Yeah, I plan to hunt on base. Wasn't sure how good the hunting would be so kind of wanted another option or two.

Go east to mountains. Find forest. Park rig. Get out and hunt. Tons of public land. Lots of animals.

Really your fellow military should have some advice and tips for Ft Lewis. Southeast base holds deer elk and bear.  Not all that bad of hunting.
MAGA!  Again..

:yeah:

That's really it. Shouldn't be too hard. What's confusing you?

WDFW's website's GOHunt mapping program will give you a ton of information.  Public land becomes easy to find with that program.  Pick a few areas that the seasons fit your schedule, and then use it to find land ownership info.
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!
