Went up opening morning looking for a bear in the high country. At daylight everything was clear and allowed for time to glass the hillsides below us. Nothing was out there roaming around so we sat down and began to wait. Shortly after, a thick fog rolled in and plagued us for about 45 min. When the fog broke, I looked down spotted a brown patch near a big tree out in the open. Staring at it for about a minute or two I was about to assume it was a stump until it moved. Scrambling to get in shooting position, we were plagued once again by the thick fog.
We played cat and mouse for over 30 minutes with this bear before getting an accurate reading with my rangefinder which wouldn't work because of the fog. One well placed shot and the bear was tumbling down the hill. It's an old sow and she didn't have any cubs and hadn't been milked this year either. Her skull green scored at 16 6/8". Old bear, and the coloring was awesome! Time to get after a few more with friends!
