Mountain Lion ?
« on: August 18, 2014, 02:22:15 PM »
I was out collecting a few Lobster and Chantrelle mushrooms while scouting for a spot for black tail this year and came across this very very fresh scat / droppings. They were about two inch diameter (my hand for scale).

I also found what a few logs that had been scratched all to hell. There was a large pile of dust in front of them, from whatever did it but no prints in it. If I stood at the edge of the pile I could just barely reach the backside of the burrow / dig hole and not leave a print. I'm 5'10 and figure the animal was about the same length to reach all the way in there and not step on the pile.

My first thought was a mountain lion, because of the block-like edges of the droppings. Any thoughts?

Oh here was some of the haul too.

looks like bear.  Cat is usually long and pointy with hair and bone in it.  Bear tends to be big chunky log style with grass and seeds in it.

Good to know, thanks for the info. Well if I want a bear I know where one is. Last year when I was in the same area I saw those stumps all shredded up. Thanks again
