green water bear?

i got a buddie who is gonna be camping up in green water (baording the grean river watershed) this weekend and wants me to go with him. mainly scouting for deer, but also hunting bear.

anyone have any luck in this area for bear?

You might try Huckleberry Mountain. You can drive to the top of the ridge and even go down the other side. There are some clear cutted areas that might be good to glass from the ridge up there.

Not sure what Government Meadow is like.

government meadows is a nice spot but its only about 200 yards off of one of the busyest 4x4 trails in the state (little naches).

Yes the road going up there is busy but I have seen deer and elk running up and down those roads in the mornings just as well. I suppose a bear could easily pop out.

I have seen lots of bear up there.  Gov Meadows has a few hanging around every once in a while.
I have seen a few several times up the 7030 at the top as well.
Also up the 72 line just past the 7220 cut and the old gate there is an area where the bear seem to hang out.  I have seen them many times while elk hunting or up looking for rabbit and grouse.
Also, at the top of 72/74 there is a blocked off road that cuts down toward a little lake and a bald mountain, below the wildlife look out.  Have seen bears and coyotes a lot down in there.

I have been interested in Heading up that way myself. Can anyone give me  directions on how to head out towards Huckleberry Mountain?

Huckleberry is east of Greenwater. It's basically right behind it.

Forest Road 70 east. Then there is a left turn and and immediate bridge crossing. Zig zag up to the ridge.. Can't recall all the road numbers..

If I remember right, the first one is 7010 on the left, then 7015 a mile down on the right.
7010 goes across the bridge next to the big camping spot and heads up.

Thats not a Big camping spot anymore by the bridge....Hancock security will run you out of there,,,,,,,,,,,Les

It is national forest land?  How can Hancock run you out of there??

It is Hancock land when you leave the blacktop and cross the bridge and you can't camp until you probably get between a 1/4 and 1/2 mile up the road. Lots of people use those spots and get run out and some ticketed by the pierce county sheriff when they give the security guy crap. I know because the security guy is one of my best friends and hunting partners and he pretty much checks those sites daily. Just check if you go there and you will see the Hancock signs. You can use those sites up the road when you get past the signs. Just hoping to save someone the heartache of setting up a camp and having to tear it down............Les

I appreciate the input.  I have not been up there in a few years.  Sounds like a lot has changed.  I have never camped there, but hunted all over in my younger days.  Sounds like I am glad I do not run around there anymore.

Wouldnt waste ur time, indians have 80% control and shoot everything that moves their. Even seen them hualin ass around with guys stickin out the sun roof with rifle in hand. Seen em draggin does out in Aug. Have lots more disgusting stories to........
