Crystal mountain?
« on: August 22, 2014, 05:57:54 PM »
Anyone bear hunted crystal mountain before? Thinking of driving to the top of 410 in the am and not sure whether to hike north or south, staying out of the park obviously.

Just drive up to the first parking lot before you hit the park.

Get out your lawn chair, coffee, bino's and watch the hill side to the North East

Bears will come out and feed on the hill side and I have even seen one cross the road and feed as I stood 15 yards from it.

If you shoot one up the hill  :bfg: it will likely roll right down to you, past the yuppies in parking lot

Plenty of friendly bears up there  :peep: :peep: :peep: :peep: :peep:

We bought chairlift tickets one summer and rode up with rifles and packs.

The looks from the folks at the summit house were worth every penny. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

About 20 years ago we slept in the back of the truck while parked a quarter mile from the parking lot.  Left some breakfast sausage on the hood of the truck to thaw during the night :bdid:  Woke up with no sausage and bear tracks on the hood :chuckle:  Not sure about friendly bears up there, but they seem bold enough to walk all over the truck while people are inside sleeping inside!
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

There is a nice size chocolate mama up there, but she has two small cubs. Both are dark chocolate, try not to shoot her. I've been up there a bunch and haven't seen that many bears but it sounds like others have, good luck!

no weapons allowed on the gondola, just giving everyone a heads up now. and agreed with liljozie- for instance, we have over a thousand people here today, and probably a couple hundred people hiking around. Unfortunately it has become busier and busier the last couple of years and I think the additional traffic keeps some of the animals away from the main area.

I haven't seen a bear since last year up here, not saying they aren't around but I don't think you will find a whole lot until after sept. 21st when we are done with our summer operations.
