So are the stuffers that are shaped like an elbow any good? I assume the straight up-and-down ones are probably better
Not going to be doing any production work just minor home stuff. What's your opinion

Get at least a 5lb stuffer. Just because you want to spend time stuffing not filling.
Grizzly tools has them for a reasonable price $50 I think.

the elbow shaped suffers are OK at best. like said before, get one that holds 5 lbs and spray the inside with PAM, it will allow the plunger to slide easier.

DO NOT BUY AN ELBOW Stuffer like the Westin Cast curved Stuffer. Do yourself a favor and buy the vertical stuffer. The elbow stuffer is a pain in the ass to use and too much meat passes by the plunger. You can get a Grizzly vertical stuffer pretty close to what you pay for the Elbow stuffer. It is way easier and more efficient to use.

Yes buy a grizzly stuffer you will be much happier with it then an elbow stuffer its a great stuffer for a starter but if you can afford it get a bigger one get the biggest you can afford waltons inc has some great verticle stuffers but cost a bit more then the grizzly if you need any help feel free to contact me be glad to help with any sausage making fresh or smoked have lots of info and recipes also the same goes for a grinder buy the biggest you can afford I like LEM or cabelas grinders
