Max Hunter Vanes No Good. Say What?

So I strip some beat up vanes from a few arrows, clean them up really nice, and make a trip down to the bow shop to get my first Max Hunter vanes ever, based on some recommendations I have seen here.  Not going to say which shop because it will surely start a "which archery shop is better" discussion that I want to avoid.

Someone please tell me Max Hunter in a 3-vane helical configuration are a good choice so I can take another run at it elsewhere.

There just fine some guys really like them.  I haven't shot them personally. They are slightly heavier than a standard set of blazers.

There was a thread not too long ago about blazer/hunters...a lot of people use both. Try a few out and see how they fly. If you like 'em...sweet. If not, oh well, try something else

I use blazers now but I want to give Max Hunters a try.  And specifically, I want to know whether the Max Hunters can be put on in a helical configuration since I'm trying to get more spin out of my arrows without going back to 4" vanes.

I have some arrows with 2 inch max hunters and they have a yard helical... i have seen 3-4 inch vanes with hard helical also... shouldnt really matter. My quiver this year is a mash up of vanes. I have fusions and max hunters and vanetec all in my hunting quiver. Shoots same with brpadheads to 70 yards (furthest i have tried). Not a ton of difference.

I've shot them in a 3 vane helical , they shoot good . My problem was that they make a lot of noise off a fast bow ( whistle) .

I shoot them on a 6 degree helical that my Arizona EZ fletch mini puts on them.  I went through countless vane and angle configurations before I found this combination and they are wonderful.  Slow the arrow down just a bit but they fly straight as hell now

So I have had Denton at Rockcreek  build all my carbons with 2 inch max hunter and they work great. they will rip off easier because of there stiffness.

Good info, thanks.  Do you notice the whistling that justyhntr mentioned with yours?  Personally, I doubt that would be a problem with elk but I wonder if a deer on the alert would "jump the string" with such a whistle.

I was contemplating giving them a shot as well.  I haven`t seen bad reviews on them??

I shoot them out of a 29" 70# hoyt carbon spider turbo and have had no problems at all with them coming off. neither have i had any problems with noise they are no more noisy than a set of blazers.

The guys at AAE are good friends of mine. I have shot their vanes for years. The max hunters come in 2" only. They are the toughest vane on the market. Use their Max Bond glue and they will NEVER come off. I have pulled arrows out of plywood backstops with a leatherman , by the vanes and continued to shoot the arrow the rest of the day. I shoot a Carbon Element at 30.5" and 72lbs. It is FAST and I do not notice any whistle. Never been string jumped. I would not use any other vane on the market. The fact that they are stiff has no direct result on whether they come off easy. If you do a good job of fletching they are permanant.
 A 2" vane does not reflect a helicle application. They are so short they actually look more like an offset vane. I use a helical clamp in my Bitzenburger with no problem.

I agree with CGSome!  They are stiffer, but I have seriously good bonding with them.  I use Saunders NPV glue more than the cyano glues and still fantastic results.  I had some white ones recently that didn't bond well, cleaned the bases with lacquer thinner and now it would take a good knife to get them off! 

About the only thing I've found they can not handle is turkey wing feathers.  Bases never come loose, but the vanes get cut like you shot them through razor blades.  Similar to every other vane I've ever used on a broadside turkey

I too use the Bitzenberg with as much helical and offset as I can possibly get out of it.  Shoot absolutely lights out!

The Max Hunter vane is a little heavier.  So if you are on the edge of being too light in tip weight the Blazer might give a slight edge.  But, Max Hunters are good enough I'd add a weight collar before switching.

The Max Hunter is a little large for my taste when shooting four fletch.  They have a new Max Hunter-Pro with a smaller profile now.  So far the four fletch results with it are SMOKIN' HOT!!  I have a new bow coming soon that will be set up with new arrows.  When that happens I'll be going back to four on it using the Max Hunter Pro.

Really hard to beat anything made by AAE.  Not sure they make anything that hasn't been designed with a great deal of thought.  Good folks, Great products! 

Sounds like you found a shop employee who didn't know what he was talking about.  Or just wanted to sell what he had instead of getting something new.  Most shops will fletch Max Hunters if you have them.  If they refuse...time to find a new shop!  Or better yet, by an Arizona Jig or a Bitzenberg and start fletching your own!

Note:  The fabulous Bohning Helix Tower does not accept Max Hunters easily.

I've got 3 arrows at the archery shop (a different one) to get the Max Hunters put on so I can see how they do.  Once I get a setup I like I think I'll get one of those jigs and fletch my own.  Having it done at the shop is a little spendy.

In business time is money.  And becoming Mo Money all the time   Not a quick simple task to refletch arrows well.
