Um, how is she breaking the law?

"although I'm not registered,  and my dad is out of town.
So i have to keep him till tomorrow."

"I cant submit it today, my dads out of town so i'm going to have to wait a day."

Register in person at one of the designated registration stations each day prior to fishing.

Fish must be returned to the same registration station where the angler registered. They must be returned on the same calendar day stamped on the angler’s registration form, before that station closes for the day, and they must have been caught subsequent to that days’ registration time.

Seems pretty straight forward what the rules are.

OK, may I be the first to slam the OP. You didn't register and you don't get to claim a prize. Sorry about your peanuts, but play by the rules or you're breaking the law. Yes, I'm a Boy Scout and yes, I hold myself to the same standards.

Once you start making exceptions to the rules, you'll continue to do it until you're caught and then, it'll be someone else's fault. Get hold of your ethics now while you're young and fix this.

10. All fish to be redeemed for reward payment must have been personally caught solely by the angler submitting them for reward payment.

11. Fish must be alive or in fresh condition. Fish that are or were frozen, or that are in otherwise poor condition will not be accepted for payment. Technicians have the authority to determine whether northern pikeminnow submitted meet these standards.

12. Violation of any of the above rules may result in disqualification from the Northern Pikeminnow Sport Reward Fishery Program.

I highly doubt this a trolling expedition.  :twocents: I see what you guys are trying to get across. However according to the OP, no transaction has taken place. There is also a good and poor way to try and mentor a youngster to do the right thing....

The OP clearly stated that he/she wasn't registered and wanted to wait for dad to get home so they could go back, register, and collect for the fish. This is not playing by the rules. The right way to mentor a youngster is to tell them that cheating fish & wildlife laws is not the way to go, ever. Unless I'm missing something here...? :dunno: Next, it'll be what's the harm in using barbed hooks or keeping a natural steelie because no one's looking and it's a really nice fish. It's one thing to make an honest mistake. It's another altogether to knowingly break the rules.

Rules were apparently broken. Check.

Laws broken...I don't see it that way.

Sorry that the OP will/may/should/has missed out on the bounty. Good learning experience, way to remove yet one more problem fish from the population.

Now, get registerd and go get another one!

Hard to get away with claiming an old fish is real.

I think if it were me, and especially if I were a young woman, I'd go there and say:

"Hey, we caught a tagged squawfish with a tag before I had registered.  I have registered now and would like to turn the fish in, but only if the $500 reward still applies.  If the reward does not apply, I'll keep the $500 tag as a memento of a great fishing trip."

My guess is, with $500 per fish, they REALLY want those tags.  Then you can be honest and help out the state.

I agree 100%. Just saying that delivery of said message can be critical when trying to teach.

I guess it wouldn't make a difference if i report it. Even though i had it for a day longer(its gone now), I would've still turned it in even if i didn't receive the money.
Research is research!

Sure will when i have the time.
I'm bass fishing all the time down where i caught it. Funny thing, those pikeminnow will bite on bass jigs.
I'm an honest person, and with a deep interest in conservation, management, etc, i don't want that on my record if i ever plan on joining the WDFW service.
$500 would've been nice, but i think i'd rather have salmon.
