Lake sammamish tips?
« on: August 24, 2014, 08:51:39 PM »
Recently traded my 1 man pontoon for a nice little skiff and want to get out on lake sammamish and try some smallmouth and perch fishing. Looking for any advice for a decent perch holes and what the smallmouth like, crank baits, senkos, spinners? I don't have a depth finder but I've looked over the topos of the lake a few times and have a pretty good feel for it.

Some moster carp out there too.  The cutthroat fishing can be pretty hot at times.  Just get out there and get to know it.  Work the docks and structure for smallies.  For exploring, I did OK trolling various rapalas and noting where I'd take the smallies (generally near shore and docks) and where I'd take perch, or the cutties.  Change location, depth, speed and see what works.  I'd also use a fish finder and when I'd spot a school, drop some bait down and usually found some perch.

For perch find a weedline in 18-25' and fish it with small jigs or a nightcrawler. You'll find bass there as well. You can also fish "The Thing" from Timberlane park to Vasa park. Its a underwater pipeline that runs parallel to shore in about 20' just out from the docks. It rises up to about 10' and is visible from the surface. You'll find bass and perch there as well. Out front of the whale mural down by Vasa park used to be a good perch hole. The time to fish these areas is now. In September the fish will start to move deep and tactics will change. Good luck!

These are all great tips... I would add that I caught a pretty good sized smallie trolling a #3 Blue Fox in FireTiger north of Vasa Park.... maybe 10-15 feet out from the docks.  I was just exploring in my canoe and decided to troll and WHAMO!

Have fun!

Fish the sunken forest south of vasa park...
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.
