New guy
« on: August 23, 2014, 09:35:19 PM »
I'm going on my first deer hunt in Nov. with Bear Paw Outfitters. I've heard nothing but good and I'm really looking forward to it. A fella named Guy I met on the Nosler forum highly recommended him so I booked right away. Guy was quite emphatic about not letting me not getting a pronghorn draw in MT keeping me from hunting in this state. So to him I give thanks. I had a real poor deer hunting experience 30 years ago and swore I wouldn't waste my time again. It was such a disaster that I can't call it my first deer hunt. I'm not from a family of hunters. My dad taught me how to golf but he didn't know about hunting. I had always hoped to have someone mentor me along the way so I could learn but that never happened. I raised a family where their needs were more important than mine so put hunting behind me. I went through two divorces and finally met my 3rd and final wife, who had a 10 year old boy. He is my son though a step-son and I took him coyote hunting a few times and it's not his bag. He's 17 now and the drum major at his high school. He's a good kid and I'm proud of him and he's going to be a fine upstanding young man. So getting back to finally hunting deer at 52. I've had many plans made and broken with friends the last several years to hunt deer here or in MT and they all fell through due to one thing or another. I decided to say the hell with it and rely on myself to make it happen because it wasn't going to happen any other way. Because of that I feel a lot better about this than any of the other hunts.
I'm working on loads for my Kimber 257 Roberts with 100gr Partitions. I've got a Winchester M70 fwt. in 7 Mauser for backup. I'll be checking in now and then to keep up with things. Thank you

Welcome, and I like your choice in your primary rifle and the cartridge it's chambered in. Great choice and the cartridge is a classic. I hope your first "real" deer hunt is at least enjoyable and educational, even if you aren't successful.

Thanks bobcat. Dale success almost gaurunteed or I get half my money back so I'd say I got a real good chance. Can only get so much info from a book and video so the rest is up to me to get out and learn some.

Have a great hunt, no one was around when I shot my first buck, never had seen anyone field dress one either,,,just knew you had to get the insides out, wasn't too pretty and that green stuff really stunk.!    50 years later,,, I just get the insides out!
Have him show you the right way to dress it out!

Can't do much better than Bearpaw Outfitters from what I've heard. Have a great hunt. Take lots of pictures and share them with the rest of us. Don't take any of Dale unless you have a spare lens!  :yike: :bdid:
