WTA Booth at WA State Fair
« on: September 14, 2014, 10:13:50 PM »
Been a very interesting couple of days at the State Fair. Bruce did a great job setting up. A lot of  interest in people wanting to be trappers. The kids really like the furs and I have only been lecture once by a lady who was obviously against trapping! If you get a chance stop by and visit. We are set up in the NW Outdoor Bldg.

I'll have to wander over and check it out.  We are over in the FFA beef barn for 2 more days.

Will you be taking the booth to the rest of the fairs or just there?
You must first be honest with yourself,Until then your just lying to everyone.

I would love to have our booth in more Fairs but I haven't been able to get anyone who wants to take on the responsibility of doing  a Fair. I would haul it over and help set it up but I cannot do it all. I spend over $50 every day I go to Puyallup plus all the time involved.
I used to do GH County Fair and SW WA Fair. Haven't been able to do them for a while.

The fair season is coming to an end for the most part. I think next year I will try and get the WTA booth at the Benton/Franklin County Fair. It’s close to home and it’s my opinion that we need to be out there doing our part to educate.

This was the first time I had participated in the booth and although I was only there for three days I am glad I did because it was a real learning experience. You would be surprised how enthusiastic the kids were and the sheer number of people who stated "I thought trapping was illegal". People just don't know. Hundreds of people comment on how they had no ideal how important it is to manage our resources and after hearing about our seasons and the role we play, these individuals walked away with a positive outlook on trapping. (Obviously not everyone but most).

I will be doing it again next year and would encourage all of the WTA members to consider helping out. It is well worth the effort.

Doug and everyone else that has helped out just want to say thanks. I think Fairs are our biggest opportunity for Public outreach. It would really help our image if we could do more.

Only one correction, Official name, Washington State Trappers Association.
