Been on here a bunch lately soaking up your wealth of info this is my first post. I used the 7 day free trial for onxmaps on my phone, its android, before I spend the money I was wondering if anyone else already has it or if there is a cheaper/better/easier way to get the same information.

I love the app and purchased it. I think it's priced on the high side but I spend a lot of time looking at stuff on it.  I have not found anything better yet...

I bought that for my gps for tracking my hounds dont know about the phone app-if its the same thing is awesome-show landowners-hunting units-mine was 100 bucks worth it for sure

I just bought the Idaho chip a few days ago for my Antelope Super Tag. I am anxious to try it out since all I have heard was great things about it.

I have it for my gps and its great but for your phone its going to eat up batteries and if you dont have service it wont show loc.

Thanks. I tried the app and it worked awesome. I'm questionable on the offline abilities... and how rough is it on batteries huntnfmly? I figured I was just going to use it to make sure I was where I thought... aside from my other maps. Technology makes navigation super easy. This is only my second season out i havent joined any organizations yet tkropelniki.

Offline capabilities are fine. Works good in the field without service. The only issue I have with it is that it lacks good zoom capability. If you zoom in to get a more accurate location on most of the downloadable maps. The map image disappears and you see map tiles that say "image not available." This is a real problem in my book. Especially when your location may deal with property lines and GMU boundaries. Showing my location that could be 1/4 mile  in either direction of a boundary, can get you into trouble. They will tell you there are a few maps that will zoom in closer, but they are not the good maps from the forest service that actually show all of the trails ect.

Another problem I've seen is again with the zoom. If you have a normal size phone, some of the lettering on the maps are small. If you try to zoom in to read words or numbers better, thinking it will make it bigger. It doesn't. It readjusts all of the overlaid letters and numbers and they become small again before you can read it.

In my opinion. It's good to use as a back up to a better GPS  app like Gaia GPS or for just general location and viewing public/private land.

When it comes to your battery life. It should be fine. I just keep my phone off or in airplane mode until I need to get my location. Keep your screen brightness low. I used it on a 5 day high buck hunt last year. My IPhone battery lasted 2 days. I carry an extra battery pack that will charge my phone to 100% 4 times. I also pack a solar unit that will charge that battery pack. If you do something like that you'll be ok.

With using the HUNT App out in the field there is a setting called Field Mode that is like Airplane mode. It turns off everything in your phone that is not used by the app and saves you battery power. We also suggest if you are going out for more than one day to take a charger, solar or battery operated.

Unfortunately due to licensing restrictions some of our maps can only zoom into a certain extent.

I have the OnXMaps for my GPS, phone App, and the Google Earth. I really like the way the GPS and the Google Earth work together. All my way points transferred over to Google Earth and gave me a really good view of were I have been. I was able to set up some waypoints to where I want to go and transfer them to my GPS. As for the App it is a good scouting tool but in the field it isn't the best - I perfer my GPS unit. I have shown it to my hunting buddies and they like it.
