Fun times
« on: September 03, 2014, 11:17:56 AM »
Ok , I have never posted a hunting story before but this one was way to fun to keep to myself and you can flame me for my decision if you want , why not all my friends are . The second day of deer season finds my wife and I in our favorite morning hunting plot . We know the deer feed low in a clear cut and then head up to their bedding area , we also know what trails to post up on and try our best to cut them off . Opening morning found my wife in a stare down 10 yards from a fat doe . The doe never quite knew what she was and sneaked away . Which leads us to morning #2 . On our way in we cross a pretty good pile of bear poop and found his tracks up into the woods . We continue on the our stand . After about 2 hours there is not a thing moving in our area . I've had some quite a few does come in this year using a fawn bleat when I was trying to call bear so I figure I'll give a couple bleats and see if I can get some movement . I hit it a few time and wait , nothing so we decide to head to another area . We walk about 70 yard and I hear a crack below me and at the same time my wife says BEAR . He's about a 100 yards away and working the hill side to were we had been standing . I go into stalk mode watching his movement and doing my best to figure out were he is going to cross my path. I loose sight of him but decide he will be coming up on one of the deer trails , it would give me a 20 yard shot . I wait and wait, nothing , I can hear him but I can't see him . Pretty soon I see him about 70 yards in some small alders smelling the area that I had pissed not 10 minutes ago . I make a move to cut the distance and he starts moving left of right .
I  shoot my bow beyond 50 yards all he time but I know inside 40 I don't miss , outside 40 I  shoot about 80% . So for me I will not shoot beyond 40 at any game . I have this beautiful 200+ bear , wearing a necklace and an ear ring standing 45-50 yards broad side , totally relaxed and unaware of my presence , I all most shot , next time maybe I'll have him at 30 . I let him walk .
