Bear Down! First one!
« on: September 01, 2014, 10:37:31 AM »
Well i finally got my first bear. I was out in the woods probably 8 times in august and finally sealed the deal yesterday.

Well after hiking around for about 5 miles I decided to head back to my truck because I had a wedding to get to. So i just put my head down and started booking down the logging road to the truck. I got about 1/2 mile from the truck and came around a corner and there he was standing on the side of the road about 100yds down the hill. I think I audibly screeched/yelled "Bear" to myself. I hurriedly point and Shot and destroyed his hip with the 270win. he was quartering to me slightly. I walked down to wear i shot him and he was only able to make it about 15 yds, i put one through both lungs, heard the Death Bawl and he was done. I called my dad to come help me pack it and i started skinning it for my rug. He showed up with a wheel barrow so it was an easy pack out down the hill to the truck.

Got the hide in the freezer and the meat hanging in the fridge and made it to the wedding with zero time to spare.

Nice color bear! The animals always seem to show when you've got someplace to get to. It looks like a good size bear so hopefully you didn't ruin too much meat in the hindquarters. Those 270's can really destroy some good meat when they hit bone. Good job, congratulations.

Beautiful bear. Well done. You saved a lot of fawns today!

Awesome bear! Congrats!   -I always joke with my wife on the way back to the truck that the mutual of omaha deer is going to be standing right between us and her truck - and that I'm shooting no matter what.
