Grouse stomach worm?

I shot a ruffed grouse today, when I was cleaning the bird I found a big worm in his stomach. Has anyone experienced this before. Should I eat the meat or not?

 Yes you should. Living in the grouse should not effect the worms meat one bit.

Great advice!  I think worms are included in the wastage law.

My son and I took four this morning and I cleaned them didn't find any worms, but I would just cook well and eat.

Grouse just might eat worms, y'know. They eat other crawly stuff, too. Salamanders, small snakes....blech.  I'm going to start hunting cornish game hens, in a grocery store!

It wasn't just a worm that they eat, it was a parasite worm, that's why I was worried about it. Seems like the grouse had some disease or something like that

It's no big deal, I'm sure people would be freaked out by how many parasites we actually eat in our meat, poultry, and especially fish.  Just cook it completely and enjoy it.  I don't mind finding stuff in the guts of my food, why were you looking in its stomach by the way...?  It's when I find it in the meat that bugs me a little.

If you are really concerned about the worm (parasite worm) just throw the bird out. When in doubt throw it out.

Was it IN the stomach or outside the stomach \ in the stomach cavity?  Just wondering if you actually opened the stomach?  Maybe just trying to study the eating habbits?  Or slip of the knive?  Was it attached or loose?  Any white dots in the meat?

Deep freeze and cook well.  Process your game quickly and use good sanitation practices.  Unless the thing is just infested, the odd worm or something won't detour me.  Just part of working with fish and game and even farm life....

It was a slip of the knife. I saw something that looked like a little snake. It was a black worm with white horizontal stripes. First I thought it was a small snake ,then I noticed that it didn't have a head or anything. I'm sure it's safe to eat, but when I saw the worm, it was gross. The only bad part is that in the area where I hunt does not have a lotta grouse, I have to hike high and and walk hours and hours to get one. In 5 hours I hardly found one and shot it ....and now I have to throw it away. Not a good way to start off the hunting season

Throwing this bird away is IGNORANT!   Especially if the worm is in the digestive tract as there are all kinds of internal parasites that have no impact on the meat.

Eat the bird.  It is fine...  Do not waste it, as said earlier if this worm was in the digestive tract it the meat will be OK.
