Youth Hunt this weekend
« on: September 18, 2014, 12:02:13 PM »
Planning on taking my son and a friends son out for the youth hunt this weekend and was wondering if I might tap the forum for some advice on locations?  We are planning on going out in search of pheasants and it will be my son's first time.  Plan is to go to one of the drop locations in Snohomish County.  Have not been hunting the West side for over 7 years.

Last time I went I believe we visited the Samish site north of La Conner and took a friends son out for his first time and he got lots of shots.  Can you guys recommend any sites in the Skagit area that are favorable for a first time hunter?

30 min north up in lake terrell area there are plenty of birds released. Gets crowded but early season should be pretty good i think.

Youth season should have no crowd issues. It is usually a great time for the kids, release guys are very helpful to the hunters and often times guys with dogs are there to help in the hunt if you have no dog or you down a bird you can not find. Usually there are folks on here all week prior, offering locations they will be with their dogs just looking for young hunters to help  :dunno:.

Thanks guys for the tips.  Looking forward to a fun trip with the boys.  Success will be measured not just by birds down but the fun hunting experience and their attitudes that go along with the days hunting.
