I finally filled my first tag !!!!!!!
« on: September 03, 2014, 07:55:15 PM »
Opening day morning it was me and my freind MontanaArcher out in the blind with his son and the chipmunks were going nuts making a ton of racket. By about 10 am we had seen nothing and decided to move around a bit and discovered where there had once been lots of deer tracks and such there were now lots of coyote and cougar tracks so we moved on a bit farther rather irritated.

A bit later we were having a snack and i was glassing the tree line and said wouldnt it be funny if we saw a deer right now on our way out and Montana Archer spotted the spike laying there in the ferns where i had just been looking. So we made our stalk on it and after we sat for about 15 minutes at 15 yards with the deer either not worried or not paying attention to us he finally stood up slowly so i made a shot which hit poorly and the chase was on. He went about  100 yards and we caught up and my second arrow hit the mark and he was down.

After a brutal 3 mile drag we were outta there to process the deer and some beers. I would like to again thank Montana Archer for everything. It took eating 3 tags and many many hours in the woods to get this done. I know a spike on opening day dont make sense to some but it is my first deer ever and at 40 i am thrilled.

Makes plenty of sense. Notched tag is a good thing.

Congrats! Your first deer is something you'll never forget.  My first deer was 22 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday.

Could be a twin to my first deer.  That first one still to this day might be my biggest trophy.  I probably worked harder for that spike than any other deer I've ever taken.  Congratulations!  They will start coming easier from here on out ;)

My first deer was a blacktail spike, and I could hardly have been more proud.  Congratulations on your first deer, and enjoy some of the best meat around!
