I have family in the area and hunt there and we are going to pack up and leave due to the lack of deer in the area! :IBCOOL:

one of my favorite spots up on top of Sherman seemed to turn into a ghost town starting 3-4 years ago.  Im sure its not a coincidence

I saw plenty of deer sign on Sherman this year but no bucks or bear.

My family and I have hunted the same spot up in republic for decades. Yes, the wolves have moved in and the deer are becoming more scarce. This year we seen two wolves and heard the rest of them. They were killing a free range cow. Should have heard that cow yell....... :yike:

When in Alaska they howled to beat the dickens when they found a bear gutpile from another hunter, and then again the next day when they found my moose pile.   I wonder if it has something to do with increased gutpiles from hunters.   They are very vocal this time of year though, I have also noticed that.

Tribal interactions seem really mixed over it.   Some are all for blasting every one they see(hunters) (and they DO)  and some are holy rollers over the spirits of the wolves.   No different than the rest of the world I guess.

Probably from increased activity in general. It is how they communicate after all and I'm guessing they are often seeing if they get a call back when they hear activity or are letting others know something is up. A little like an elk giving a quick "bark" to let the rest know something is up...that moment when the bugling stops.

Yeah Bone, it sounded pretty brutal. I now know why people think they hear bigfoot  :chuckle: But in all seriousness, my dad wrote to the WDFW about the wolves killing the cow and a bioligist by the name of Jay Shepard called my dad back and told him they took all the free range cattle and moved them down lower before modern season this year. I saw a few cows still up there though so he seemed concerned and wanted to know the location. When we told him he said there have been bigfoot sightings reported to them up there recently. No wonder the deer are becoming scarce huh   :chuckle: But I guess there are 12 confirmed wolf packs in Wa, as far west as Wenatchee. Pretty soon our whole state will be consumed by wolves.

"They were so aware of every tiny thing and spooky."

Same occurrence at my hunting spot!  Where the doe's used to stand around and watch me, after they noticed me there,  slightest noise sent them on a full boar run!! :dunno:

Oh ya wolves showed up there this spring, so I guess I am just imagining things :bash:

Also last year, we could glass the surrounding hills and see deer all over the place, especially at about 4:30 in the afternoon, this year NOTHING all day!
The only good tree, is a stump!
