And I think God must be a cowboy at heart
He made wide open spaces from the start
He made grass and trees and mountains and a horse to be a friend
And trails to lead ol' cowboys home again

Way to go! There's no hunting like stick bow hunting.... nothing else compares.

Cool!

I'm a recurve guy myself so Id love to hear the story behind the hunt. How challenging was it to get close enough? Any obstacles?

He's been watching a few for several weeks. I know he built several treestands and worked them every morning and evening since the opener. He kept telling me about how they were just out of range or didn't show up. Finally this morning he put it together. I think it was around 15 yards. He's been shooting longbow for about 6 years.  I used to own that now till my shoulder gave up and I know it takes some serious commitment to shoot it well. It's good to see young guys who put in the effort. I

Then he sent this pic.  Rub it in while you're at it.

I was waiting for you to supply that.  Looks like pine squirrel stew again I guess.

I will second that, and congrats to your son-in-law. You are fortunate your daughter found herself a keeper!
I'd just like to remind everybody that it's about the hunting, not just the killing. In other words, it's about the total experience, the sport itself and the challenge involved. Bowhunting, done right, is a justifiable and honorable pursuit. Done for the wrong reasons, simply chalking up kills and seeking personal glory, it's taking away rather than giving back to a principled way of life that has to be experienced to be understood.
